FW: [sdre-l]: New Label

1999-10-13 Thread back and to the left

"Time Bomb" - may just be me but I have no idea what the hell this label
is."

Time Bomb is a label..uhhh they a few shitty bands (Social
Distortion,Aquabats) and a few good bands (No Knife) It might be owned by a
major I'm not really sure here's the official homepage:

1999-10-13 Thread Jacob Caton

I spoke with a Time Bomb Rep. They are owned by Arista records in conjunction
with BMG. Not the indie we thought it was. They have some Vandals and
other punk stuff.. The hq is in Chicago, but the guy I spoke with was from
L.A.

[sdre-l]: Sdre poor live show.

1999-10-13 Thread ETexasAve

hey i know i'm not the best person to voice this opinion , but when I saw
sdre, i really was not impressed with their stage prescence at all, it was
the music that got to me. I really don't think they are a good live band,
they hardly interact with the audience at all, or with each other , didn't
seem to generally be having an estatic time. The music too didn't seem to be
all that different from a regular album as well.
but even with this in mind it was probably one of my favorite shows , but
only because they had broken up and gotten back together and it was their
second show.
any thoughts on sdre's mediocre live performance?
dan
ps. for an awesome live show everyone should see at the drive in or the
promise ring.

[sdre-l]: what would you recomend...

1999-10-13 Thread david biederbeck

Just curious...
When you are talking to a person who has never heard
of sdre but wants to, what album do you usually tell
them to get first?I usually say DIARY but I wanted
to here others oppinions.

timebomb has major distribution, but its not owned by any of the giant record
labels. So its a major label sort of, very ambiguous. It probably has better
distribution than sub pop does.
Time bomb is home to A great Band called NO KNIFE, fucking incredible...also
home to acts like death in vegas.

Re: [sdre-l]: Live CD/video

1999-10-13 Thread Rombinorad

Has anyone heard of TimeBomb Records?

if you check out the webpage linked to off of sunnydayrealestate.com's new
page, you'll see that time bomb has put out records by No Knife (recent jimmy
eat world tour partners and a good band... definitely worth a listen) and
other bands like Social Distortion/Mike Ness (hate that shit but whatever).

extremely interesting that sdre signed to this label, though, it definitely
seems like a step down. I have friends who know people in No Knife and they
said Time Bomb has been really great to them, getting them their money
without delay and giving them plenty of money for touring but, then again, a
no knife tour is a LOT smaller than a sdre tour (they only had one person
along with them acting as sound man / tech support man) unlike sdre who
seemingly take along not only sound man (don't know if greg's still gonna do
that or not... hopefully he will) but also merchandiser woman (greg's wife)
and guitar tech and drum tech... a whole entourage.

how time bomb's gonna support that and then give them money to make any music
videos (something that they were seemingly interested in doing, as said in
early press for how it feels, but saying that sub pop could not fund them as
their ideas were too extravagant or something) and then support the other
bands on the label, i have no idea... i guess we'll just have to see how
this one plays out and trust that the band's not full of great musicians who
happen to be idiots when it comes to business decisions (though that wouldn't
be the first time in music history that that would have happened.)

oh, and re: greg making effects pedals for guitars and offering/advertising
that service on the list a few weeks back: i have a friend who had a pedal
made by greg and he really likes it a lot. so, if you're sick of the shitty
ass pedals dod or boss make and can't find a good, original Big Muff pedal,
i'd definitely get ahold of greg and get him to make you one.

word,
jeremy

Re: [sdre-l]: New Label

1999-10-13 Thread back and to the left

I got the new live album today and it sounds really good. Jeremy's voice is
right on the mark (as usual) and the mixing is good..and the setlist is
good. I can't think of any bad things to say about it.

[sdre-l]: introducing myself.

1999-10-13 Thread Jonathan Kubacka

Hello everyone,
my name is jon kubacka; i just joined this list the other day, so i
figured i should briefly introduce myself. Well, to start off, i am 18 years
old, i go to California University of Pennsylvania(freshman) to probably
begin the study of philosophy, and i play guitar in a grind/death/hardcore
band called Circle of Dead Children. Those are pretty much the main things
in my life.
Well, despite the fact that i mainly listen to grindcore and death
metal stuff, my favorite band of all is Sunny Day Real Estate, which is why
i joined this thing in the first place. I was introduced to them by a friend
of mine that is really big into the emo stuff about a year ago. He let me
hear the first three songs from Diary and I bought the CD the next morning;
i liked it that much!!! Soon I bought How it Feels and then LP2 and i can
honestly say that this band is yet to write a song that i don't like. Can't
wait for the live CD and Video!
I finally got around to buying Jeremy Enigk's return of the frog queen
CD last week and once again, i found it simply amazing. I really don't know
why I put off buying it for so long. i'm sure this has been a topic on this
list many times before, but does the majority here love this CD too?
Well, that's all i'll say for now. later on.

[sdre-l]: SonicNet live album preview... more info

1999-10-13 Thread anthony

actually... sonicnet has more than just "in circles" from the live album up for
preview... it picks a random track from the live album
and plays it when you go to that site.

http://concert.sonicnet.com/concerts/world_premiere/main.jhtml

go there, and go through all the stuff... and it plays a different track every time in
it's little "tuner," which is slow and annoying
and shows you ads and stuff. so i did a little research:

pnm://rbn-sea4.rbn.com/sonicnet/sonicnet/demand/radio/sunny_day_real_estate/pillars_live28.ra
pnm://rbn-sea4.rbn.com/sonicnet/sonicnet/demand/radio/sunny_day_real_estate/guitar_and_video_games_live28.ra
pnm://rbn-sea4.rbn.com/sonicnet/sonicnet/demand/radio/sunny_day_real_estate/100_million_live28.ra
pnm://rbn-sea4.rbn.com/sonicnet/sonicnet/demand/radio/sunny_day_real_estate/song_about_an_angel_live28.ra
pnm://rbn-sea4.rbn.com/sonicnet/sonicnet/demand/radio/sunny_day_real_estate/in_circles_live28.ra

if you feed those addresses into yr realplayer, it will play those files... the other
songs from the album either aren't up there, or i
can't figure out the file names of them... for you 56k users, i imagine it's the same
thing except you replace "28" with "56"

sonicnet wouldn't approve, but i'm sure you do :)

anyway, it's hard to tell over a 28.8 modem for sure, but i'm already disappointed
with the mixing of this record.

oh yeah, and for all of you (a lot) who haven't been paying attention:

the cd/2lp was recorded in eugene, or
the track list is:
Pillars
Guitars Video Games
The Blankets Were The Stairs
100 Million
Every Shining Time You Arrive
Song About an Angel
The Prophet
J'Nuh
Rodeo Jones
In Circles
Days Were Golden

the video was recorded at the breakroom in seattle, wa 5/30/99
the track list is:
Pillars
Guitar Video Games
The Blankets Were The Stairs
100 Million
Song About An Angel
The Prophet
Rodeo Jones
In Circles
J'Nuh
-- and then it has the videos for "seven" and "in circles"
