[sdre-l]: Songs cut from Rising Tide

2000-11-13 Thread Rob Riss

Hey guys,

just read the interview with dan from yahoo! chat on the in the blue site.
He says on there that there were two songs cut from rising tide, one of them
being "one of the best songs sdre has ever written". Well, guess what? No,
no one has them, sdre doesn't want us to yet. BUT, possibly, you can hear
snippets of them from the Quicktime videos that the time bomb site had up
(maybe still does?) before rising tide came out. These riffs aren't on the
album anywhere that i can hear, but maybe they're just having fun playing
something else. Either way, one of the riffs is on "danjeremy.mov", the
other is on "orchestra.mov". I'm pretty sure the latter is that "best song"
dan was talking about, it sounds awesome. They better do something with the
music on that movie clip.

Anyway, is the list still up? What's going on? I havn't gotten a message
for a few days now.

[sdre-l]: Denver show at the Gothic

2000-10-06 Thread Rob Riss

Hey guys,

just wanted to check to see if anyone made it to the show at the Gothic
theatere in Denver. I decided not to go since it was a farther drive for me
and i had work at 7:30 AM...but personally, i would prefer the Fox over any
other venue in denver. It's easy to get to, there's no smoking, and
although the town may be weird it's kind of in the middle for everyone to
get to.

but...how was the show??

have a great weekend,

[sdre-l]: The mysterious Larry revealed! (maybe)

2000-06-25 Thread Rob Riss

So, Jeremy only thanks one person in the liner notes of the CD, someone
named "Larry".

My guess is it is Larry Packer, who played various string instruments in the
orchestration of the CD, and it looks like he wrote the arrangement for Rain
Song.

If this isn't it, your guess is as good as mine!

their shows? Thank you.

[sdre-l]: Merch list and prices - 3rd stop: Boulder, Colorado

2000-06-24 Thread Rob Riss

Hey,

Just got back from the Boulder, Colorado show, and it was simply
fan-tas-tic. Nothing bad to say, except for the fans, who this time are
known for stealing merch from other fans and starting fights after the show,
not to mention the usual screaming for songs they'll never play. Nice job
boulder!

First off, the merch prices. I'm not sure if anyone has written these in
yet, but it's a good thing to know, so i'll do it again.

Shirts - 15 bucks. 3 or 4 choices or so, the coolest being the Thief steal
me a peach shirt on white with a bright orange peach.

Pillowcases - 15 bucks. Comes in a two pillowcase set, written in Jeremy's
script handwriting from How it feels. First pillow case says, "Morning
comes in the dream before we rise", second says, "when we linger side by
side", white cases with light blue writing.

Patches, or "armbands" - 3 bucks, black with a white "rodeo jones" written
across it, pretty big, looks like about 10 inches.

Stickers - a buck each, ouch. Circle stickers in black or red with the fly
on it.

Posters - 2 bucks. Good price, but they're pretty small, with a shot of the
band and sdre written above it. Better than the live poster, but still,
nothing compared to Chris Thompson's artwork.

That's about it. I didn't catch the prices for the CDs or records, but they
had the rising tide LP in double, green vinyl. Cool!!

Notice that the AD site was selling the shirts for 20 bucks? Get yours on
tour while you can, i have a feeling we'll get the money whipped from our
hands indiana jones style when the online store becomes more complete.

Oh, for no knife, shirts were 10 bucks. They did a great job, people were
going nuts for them. Yes, they did close with Mission control, and played
it great. The blonde guitar player can play some mean riffs, and is a great
singer as well. Bass player was tight as hell, too. Amazing band!

Sdre came out, played mainly songs off the new album, one from the pink
album and two from diary, i think just two from how it feels. No need to
review it, just as magical as usual. Between songs, someone shouted "hey
will, foo fighters suck!", which he seemed to not find too amusing, and gave
a gesture that looked like, "hey now, no shit-talkin". Besides that, that's
it!

Have a great night,
-Rob

[sdre-l]: Sdre.com store --- who the hell can afford this?

2000-06-22 Thread Rob Riss

Jesus,

20 bucks for the new t-shirt shirt? 50 bucks for the workshirt? This is
crazy. Way out of line. I'm sure shipping nabs you in the ass too. If the
merch booth at the show is this expensive, my hopes for sdre are shot. I
guess i'll find out tomorrow night...

keeping my fingers crossed,

[sdre-l]: Snibe, artwork, other stuff

2000-06-21 Thread Rob Riss

Hey,

Has anyone else noticed that the feedback on "Snibe" is the exact same note
as pillars? At least it's close...why would they do that?

Anyway, i'm VERY impressed with the new album, the sound is just fantastic.
But again, i have to agree with most of the people on this list about the
artwork. It's good, i like the cover pretty well, but it just doesn't work
for sunny day. Any other band this would be great, but sunny day needs the
elaborate artwork to catch my attention now. Maybe for the next album they
can get Chris Thompson back. I always thought it was great that you never
saw a picture of them in the cds, too, it made the music stand out more.

Also, what's with that sound clip before tearing in my heart? A little bit
strange.

Television is probably the first "happy" sdre song ever! And it works, too.
For the most part, they did a good job.

Also, does anybody remember how many albums sdre signed on to time bomb for?
I think it was 3, maybe just 2, i can't remember that too well...

See you friday in Boulder!

some guy in "brian Parker's new band" put his song on napster under the name
"Sunny day real estate - Giving up (demo from new record sessions)"...don't
download this thinking it's sdre, download it if you want boring indie rock
only.

[sdre-l]: The artwork - mp3s

2000-05-20 Thread Rob Riss

Hey list!

has anyone gotten the word yet about the artwork for the new album? I'm
getting curious. Someone earlier posted that the cover was the dot-matrix
image on the timb bomb page...i'm not sure though, since dan commented that
it would be haunting. Nothing is more haunting than a dot-matrix collage of
the three members!

About the mp3s...has sunny day ever let you down? The new album will be
good. Waiting another month isn't as bad as it may seem. I remember
getting How it feels in the mail, tearing it open and listening to the whole
album while surfing through the artwork, then getting dissapointed because
i'd heard "pillars" already from the subpop site. That ruined the
continuity of the album for me for a long time. And, hey, does delaying
gratification sound familiar??

[sdre-l]: The Haunting Sound artwork, changing times

2000-02-11 Thread Rob Riss

Well,

as far as the updates go, I'm EXTREMLY sad that chris thompson will not
return for art direction. I trust SDRE's art opinion, and i'm sure they can
find something equal to chris's work, but for me Chris made the album - he
was as much of a member as any of the other guys. I know SDRE didn't come
up with the artwork for the live album, but that has to be some of the worst
crap i've ever seen. Subpop screwed that up. But...

I am looking forward to the "haunting sound" as Dan described the new album
to have. I considered Diary to be a haunting album is some ways, and that
still remains my favorite album. This was good news for me, i'm hoping this
is a step back to that older sound.

Still, this seems to be a big change. How it feels is definintly more
acceptable in the mainstream, and recent steps made seems to be walking
further in that direction. Turning the website over to Artist Direct, the
new producer, not having Chris return...this just too weird. Something is
up, guys. Keep your eyes open.

have a great weekend,

[sdre-l]: the live cd is out - preorderers, check your mail!

1999-10-23 Thread Rob Riss

hi,

just checked my mail and found the new live cd with the rest of my junk.
The packaging is kind of basic, just a digipak thing with a black and white
cover (that sketch on the subpop page). The inside has a picture of dan
singing on the left with the liner notes, and a blurry picture of jeremy
under the clear CD tray.

Hey, it sounds pretty good, but i hope it doesn't ruin the experience of
seeing them live. I also pre-ordered the video, but ordered it
seperately...i guess it just isn't ready yet.

The "extras" that subpop said would be included look to me like a promo
postcard for diary and one for how it feels. No poster was in there...

hope everyone enjoys it!
have a good week (i hate mondays),

[sdre-l]: possible artwork/track listing for live album

1999-10-09 Thread Rob Riss

hmmm...

sub pop seems pretty happy with using the penciled drawings on the website.
Used once for the banner on the order page, and again on the sdre preorder
page are two seperate penciled sketches of people waiting in line for a sdre
show.

Even the extremely minimal artwork for LP2 was consistant with the sdre
theme. This would totally throw things off...

the picture on the sdre preorder page probably will be in the album - on the
wall on the left side is a random listing of songs that looks very similar
to the set list on the last tour...

so here it is, the probable track listing for the live album -

pillars
guitar and video games
the blankets were the stairs
100 million
every shining time you arrive
song about an angel
the prophet
j'nuh
rodeo jones
in circles
days were golden
