I'd say it's best to use the iso8601 date format, like this:

Note that 79BC is noted as -0078 in iso8601 according to [1]. There are
other parsers

There is a way, starting with Timeline 2.2 or 2.3 to have timeline
automatically grow to display more tracks of events, as needed. One of timeline
examples demonstrates this.
To use the feature with Exhibit, I think you'll need to manuially connect a
timeline instance to exhibit.

I think the main issue would be to get the timeline events to look like your
picture. -- where there is a tape, then a label, then more of a tape, all on
one line.
It can be done by writing sw for the painter. That's more of an advanced task.

or add a method so that the timeline will advance to the next

I am working with a large but diverse data-set that sometimes can go
months without an event and it would make the presentations much
