I’ve experienced glitches with Mail too. Usually it doesn’t open immediately.
The app appears in the bar but a page doesn’t open. It has also just
disappeared sometimes and has to be opened again. Mysteriously, I don’t get the
expected message from Apple asking if I want to report the problem.
What sort of bad behaviour are you seeing?

I updated to Catalina recently and since then my Mail app has been behaving
very badly. I would be interested to know if anyone else had problems with Mail
after updating.
