Just for closure... I've found one can either use Sam's Cmd i method, or
Cmd E to edit, make the changes, Cmd E to save them, and SPACE BAR to make
the modal window vanish!

My iPhone 4s, with ios 6 has just lost its screen. it's flashing repeatedly and
I can see the real screen through a sand stormy type effect like static has
possessed the screen.
It's always been a bit on the blink since I got it with odd behaviour and the
battery power is a lot less than
Yeah tried that. It seems to be the screen more than any software I think. The
screen and goings on behind the 'sand storm' of static on the screen looks like
normal.
I guess I just take it in and see if they will fix.
