Re: [sussex_mug] Broken screen on IPhone 5s

My local Timpsons (key cutting, etc) in entrance to my local Sainburys store
replaces them, see if there is one near you. The Touch ID is a known problem if
they need to fiddle with the button while changing the glass, it’s a security
thing by Apple.

Re: [sussex_mug] Broken screen on IPhone 5s

2018-02-19 Thread nick_public1
I did this recently with my 5s and it cost me £50 at a small dedicated local
shop. Downside is now Touch iD doesn’t work so I have to put in the 4 (or 6)
digit passcode each time to open it. I believe only Apple can restore the Touch
iD because it needs specialist kit hence the high cost. I didn’t think it was
worth it. Replacement should only take 30 mins or less. I would be wary of
doing it yourself.
I’m in Wiltshire I’m afraid so unless you are as well there’s little point in
giving you any recommendations.

Hi Tilly

I did this too on shingle recently. So annoying. First time for
everything! I paid a local guy who was recommended £60 and he gave me a
3 month warranty and been working perfectly. I'm in East Kent though.

[sussex_mug] Broken screen on IPhone 5s

2018-02-19 Thread Tilly
Dear All,
Well it finally happened - dropped my phone in the car park and the screen
is now well smashed up (it was in a protective case but not protective
enough for a face down collision with the ground). It still works but the
screen is hard to read. I've wrapped it round in cling film to stop bits of
glass falling off and asked in Currys about repair (we are a long way from
any Apple shop)... £170!!! That would only be worth it if it was still in
warranty but it is long past that. Has anyone got any advice about this? I
looked on eBay for repair kits and they seem to be about £15 but I don't
fancy the stress and frustration of doing something that is totally
unfamiliar. What is the going rate for non accredited repair shops?
Anything to look out for?
Thanks
