Thin multiple layers are usually best. Heavier glass is okay if you have to
work inside where you can't rub it down good. Use plenty of epoxy in that
case. It is difficulty to layup thin cloth if you have to reach.

That may be true for the Optima Red, but the yellow is for deep cycle.
The thing I like most about the Optima is the totally sealed case that won't leak.
The Trojans are supposed to be the best all around I hear.
