THis is an oversimplification, unless you are comparing a Spirit to a foamie. A good wood trainer is much easier to fly than a foamie because it is much slower. I would rate them about even if you have an instructor. Learing process will generally be faster with wood, but you can be more agressive

I highly recommend the MAD Highlander. It is a nicely designed airplane that can give you decent thermal performance AND a perfecly good slope plane. Since it is made out of EPP foam, it is extremely durable. It will survive many crashes while generally requiring little or no repair in the proc
