It depends on the application you have in mind. For a router, the CF

isn't. Maintaining a swap partition is also not a viable option with
a CF card.
This isn't actually true. Even the older CF cards have good enough

CF already does wear-levelling in the card's controller. And longevity
is *far* better than many people seem to assume.

Hi Richard,
I was talking about write speeds, not about CF card lifespan. And yes,
of course it also depends on what people are going to push into the DB.
I wouldn't set up a CVS server on a CF card myself, just because in
general those cards are still quite slow, the affordable ones at least.
I have a Net5501, and I'm looking at locking it down (as it'll be
leaving my hands). I basically need to prevent anyone from messing with
ComBIOS and/or manipulating the HDD. On other platforms I've seen a
variety of choices:
-hard drive blessing
-BIOS passwords
-Encrypted bootloader
-Signed
I have a new net5501 and I want to install Debian Linux on it (BIOS is
1.33). I have a hard drive on it and I've setup a PXE boot server to
start the Linux install.
As I understand it, I can't boot off a hard drive and have to set
up /boot in the CF card. I've also found comments about a bug
Which specific version of comBIOS 1.33x do you have on your 5501?

Hey folks,
I've heard mention on the list that a new batch of 5501s has
hit the shops. Are any available in the US?
The US online shop shows them all out of stock still, but the
Europe shop shows them available. I'd really like to get a
5501-70 with case on order, but I'm not sure if
