that year was one of my most favorite siggraphs! the night of that party
was my birthday, so my old roommate (female) went up to the stage while
vanilla ice was performing and asked if her roommate could come up on stage
and it was their birthday. he must have misheard her say 'his birthday' and

Man, I wish I had that video.
I met with Vanilla Ice but I was too smashed to make much sense. I think I
mumbled something about him being my hero when I was a kid, which kind of
came out wrong :) That was a funny party an
I remember seeing Ron up on that balcony, it was so surreal.. And Mr. ICE
was way better than I'd thought, it was a pretty cool party! Except for all
the nerds! :D
I can actually see myself in the last photo! Yay, white t-shirt with a gray
print and a blurry face :-)

Can't promise anything (in terms of success), but I'll try to look into it.

Thanks to the effort of Graham Bell, 3dwillneverbethesame can now
proudly present
the MIA "nice ICE" video featuring Ron Jeremy.
And maybe this can re-spark interest in the 3dwillneverbethesame website
as well...

In all fairness to mister Jeremy, most users still haven't got a clue
how to pronounce the name correctly.
IIRC there once was a mp3 on either the Softimage Wiki or the "regular"
Wikipedia to help people get the pronunciation right.
And frankly, given current circumstances "SOFT DAMAGE!" would se

Yeah! That was the was a pretty killer Siggraph that year.
My first Siggraph with the Softimage team and it was Softimage's last
Siggraph as Softimage Avid.
That was fucking killer production challenge year as well. I remember
running around crazy trying to get the right microsoft dlls or some shit
That was such a fun night. I remember having to hit the airport the next
day for the flight back to vancouver and paying for my imbibing for a
couple of days after.
Jen outdid herself getting that gig together. Rudy Sarzo, the ex bassist
from Quiet Riot was also there. He was a real down to earth
curious... what do you think it cost for Vanilla Ice’s to play that night?

Ron Jeremy didn't know what the hell Softimage was - the video in question
has him saying "SOFT DAMAGE!" meanwhile our sales director (drunk along
with everyone else) is shouting "No! It's 'Softimge', rhymes with
'fromge'". It was a good party, but I doubt that video is available
anywhere.
I was at the party, I was hanging out with Jenn Goldfinch. Then vanilla ice

wow that's Ron Jeremy, that's crazy! Somehow Jen got into her head that I
really wanted to meet Jeremy, and grab me by the wrist band and prid
And with his I don't mean Ron's :p

Personally I had the idea that specific video was placed online without
the authorization from the "higher ups". An overenthusiastic intern,

I too saw this video, but I don't know where to get it.
I guess he probably asked for removal after he found out the party was *full
of softies*. :p

I know this is very OT, but it's also a piece of obscure Softimage
history, that as such deserves unearthing IMHO...
An early video of the "nice ICE" party Softimage threw to commemorate
the release of XSI 7 included a short sound-bite by Ron Jeremy, who
apparently belonged to musical guest Vani
