Max doc is the total amount of documents in the collection INCLUDING the ones that have been deleted but not actually removed. Don't worry, deleted docs are not used in search results. Yes, you can change the number by "optimizing" (see the button) but this does take time and bandwidth so use it in a way that won't negatively affect Production. Right after the optimize the Num Docs and Max Docs should be the same I believe. The -1 is (as I learned in an email on this forum a day or three ago) a sign of a bug and should be ignored for now. "Max Docs" is a confusing. It's not really the maximum number of docs you can have, it's just the total amount of docs in your index INCLUDING DELETED DOCS that haven't been cleared by a merge. "Heap Memory Usage" is currently broken.
