Sounds like you are using an old version of SPDLib. spd2spd is now called
spdtranslate.

I installed the SPDPointsViewer 2.0.2 binary for my Mac. I also installed
the prerequisites using homebrew and am trying to run the tutorials.
I ran Tutorial #1 from the SPD tutorials and the result loaded into the
