[speedtouch] Funny speeds for UK modem
Hi, I have been having a look at the funny speeds for the BT ADSL reported by the modem. They appear to be scaled by 65536: messages.1:Aug 17 19:20:23 heisenberg adsl.sh: ADSL line is up, downstream at 37748736 kbit/s, upstream at 18874368 kbit/s 37748736/65536=576 18874368/65536=288 Benoit, do you have any ideas how this could be fixed without breaking the numbers for the French service (which I presume is correct)? So, if you add a simple route instead of a default route to eth0, it will work. Hi all, Its almost there. The modem works and a peer to peer connection is made with the remote host. Can anyone tell me how to sort out routing? Will route add -net /dev/ppp0 work? And what does the second error mean? Thanks. salut j'ai un modem alcatel usb. Mandrake 8 (en texte seulement) j'ai fait l'installation des drivers adsl comme décrit sur le site http://benoit.papillault.free.fr et quand je lance la conection il me met un erreur usb_control/bulk_msg: timeout il me marque ce message a plusieur moment puis ADSL link goes UP SIOCADDRT: No such device et la il s'arrette j'ai installe vraiment le minimum pour linux (j'ai pas beaucoup de place) peut aurais-je oublié un package important? merci de me répondre ___ Do You Yahoo!? -- Un e-mail gratuit @yahoo.fr ! It still outputs the message about failing to liad mgmt.o but then it goes on to work anyway. So no more rmmod/insmod stuff! Seems to work. Done pings with lots of different packet sizes with no problems. Basically we add two extra bytes of zero which might just add an extra cell to the frame. Certainly atm_frame_dec doesn't expect those zeros there. Secondly the problem. If report() can't create the /var/log/pppoa3.log file the mutex is left locked. This will cause the second call to report() in main to block. I would suggest two changes. 1. unlock the mutex and 2. set verbose to -1 so we don't keep retrying every time report() is called. In this circumstance I think a message to stderr is appropriate. Note that this could happen for several reasons. chattr set on /var/log/pppoa3.log or specifying the logfile on the command line. There should possibly be a check that if you are overwriting a file then only root could have created that file in the first place. Otherwise, someone using /tmp/pppoa3.log as their log file might find themselves open to someone creating a link to /etc/shadow for example. Not exactly sure how this could be done or what should be done! You need to talk to some of the experts at this sort of stuff if you think we should do something about it. Just checking that the file doesn't exist is difficult enough and can leave you open to a race condition. Finally the grammatical error. In write_to_ppp_thread there is the message "Buffer overflow, too much cells for the same aal5 frame". This should read "... too many cells ..." One last point, something of a style issue and can be religious :-) The initializations FILE *log=NULL; int verbose=0; etc are superfluous. Removing the initialization moves the code out of _DATA and into _BSS, reducing the executable size by a few bytes. (This point can raise hackles on LKML so I'll let you decide how it should be done :-) Thanks for all the hard work. It is working brilliantly now and I have not seen the connection traffic dying while pppd and pppoa2 keep running.
