Bob,
The temperature transmitter is the same for all Spitfires (and indeed the
TR7 and no doubt others), so the one at NAPA should be fine. My guess is
that they don't bother stocking stuff for cars before 1980, so they only
list 80-81 as the relevant years for Triumph, even though the cars go
Clark, to it put it mildly you have no idea what the hell you are talking
about, there are over 1,000,000 model A still around, the figure of
600,00 is correct, my saying restored is wrong I should have said
driveable, just because I used the word restored does mean concours or

Folks,
Let me give you the correct way to ascertain the gauge of a wire.
First count the number of strands
Second Measure the dia of one with a mic.
Then compare to the following chart

Listers,
The trouble with having such a fine car is that everything has to be high
standard - and currently my chrome is lacking its chromey-ness - no
amount of polishing is going to fix it - so I am going to have to rechrome
it.
I phoned up a place this morning - the guy estimated me 250
When I had a small collision a couple of years back that dented my front
bumper, TRGB advised me that a re-chromed old bumper tended to be better

After repairing the body damage to my Spit

I thought I would let the scratched front bumper
be for a while. I can't do it!!! Has anyone had any
work done by Hanlon Plating in Richmond, VA?
My regular plater is backed up for 8 weeks.
By the way this

a good old fashioned place that does a good job then it probably is going
to be better than the new bumpers that are being sold with the idea of
Not sure where the extra holes are, but if they are on the top and roughly 3'
apart (sorry, I don't know the metric equivalent) they might be for the
optional AMCO bumper bar. I've had repro and original bumpers in my
possession at one time or another. The originals are definitely nicer for

Dave,
Are you sure about the wire size?? Looking at my parts car,the
2 wires that go to the shifter are 18 ga.or smaller. 12 ga.wire would never
fit through the shifter. I'm no electrician, but I do know 12 GA. is capable
of handling 20 AMPS
...No need to worry, in this rather odd isle we work on both metric and

A building suppliers I used to go to occasionally would sell you a 2 metre
length of 2x4- that always cracked me up. I'd be surprised if they don't
still do that, although with the nonsense regulations we have
Actually, I said 3 feet, not inches, but no, I have no idea what those holes
would have been for, I'm afraid!! Sorry!
