Yep, sounds like you have a different switch. I was thinking of a knob that you pull. I assumed these were fitted to all Spits/GT6s - maybe a PO changed to a non-standard switch after the original broke and he couldn't find / couldn't be arsed with another original? Or maybe I'm wrong and a '73
