Over the years I've used all shapes of tanks. Skinny rectangular tanks, fat
rectangular tanks, and round tanks, both above ground and below. I've use
swimming pools with AHJ approval twice. I've done things like place a skinny
rectangular 300g tank against the wall in a garage, it only stuck out 1

The guest house and the barn are both elective as far as sprinklers are
concerned. The barn isnt really a barn, its more of a weight room and
office with room to park two cars. As far as weight goes, the tanks would
be sitting on unexcavated earth.

I, too had an experience like this I shared here some years ago.
Turned out the FD plan reviewer had a competitor friend look at the plans
for him and he bled all over them with little or no reason for his comments.
All out of spite for losing the work. When I took them to the State Fire
Marshall'
