I don't think you have to include outside hose flow. But, you said this was military. As such, you will most likely have a separate test header with (1) 2.5 hose vale for every 250 gpm system demand. That has at least been my experience. Travis Mack, SET MFP Design, LLC www.mfpdesign.com

We have done quite a few government jobs these past few years, and found that for the most part the 2 main drain would work just fine. That being said they don't care. The engineer put it in the specs and on the drawings, so they think it's written in stone. I think it's a waste of time and

NFPA 13 says to be flow tested at SYSTEM DEMAND. One might want to use the definition that system demand is Sprinkler flow plus hose demand but the INTENT is to only add hose demand if there are hose connections (or a hydrant) downstream. NFPA 25 is much more precise in their description

Hello Jay, I use a T to a normally closed valve, Like a Fire Pump Test Header setup. IF I can not get the flow from the main drain, OR if the FDC is connected at the backflow pit, Use a grooved FDC head, Reverse the check and couple on a head with the swing clapper removed for the test.

Jay, Check the archives as this topic has been talked about fairly often and recently. NFPA 13, 2007 ed. 10.10.2.5. We always spec a backflow test outlet (male threads) sized to be able to flow system demand. Contact me if you want more detail. Reed A. Roisum, CET Ulteig Engineers, Inc.

Jay, NFPA-13 requires a forward flow test without exception. However NFPA-25 while requiring forward flow tests does contain a number of special provisions, i.e. bfp size, existing systems, water conservation issues, etc. Obviously if the system was installed under standards that required forward
