Interesting. I believe my laptop has Perl 5.8.9 (work PC, and the version
used there). Is there some specific environment/Perl requirements to play this
game?

In my group we still rely on Perl 5 for the glue and automation. It is running
some of the web, most anything automated for running many (lost count) builds a
night plus continuous. We use C# for most any database or GUI application,
having abandoned the old PerlTK and not adopting the TCL/TK
Here!!! Still on this list, not much activity though. I’m still a full time
Perl developer, with some Python activity.
