I'd say remove it but put a peg in the ground for the "last" release
that includes it for those that do use it.
I'm not going to tag a nightly. If I remove it from 8.3, then that peg
will be the last 8.2.x.

Only use it for music. Does removing the video scanner help make LMS a
more lean mean machine or does it just free up resources to focus on
core mission of music?
Removing that feature won't have much of an impact on most
installations. It's already pretty much inactive unless you use the UPnP

I vote NO - concentrate resources on music, which is where LMS really
excels.

I was wondering whether the "Media Scanner" in LMS still makes sense
(besides the music, of course). The "M" in LMS stands for Media, not
Music. But is this really being used? There are much more powerful
options out there to stream videos and photos to your TV. Why should LMS
still bother?
