I'm not estimating your knowledge at all. I'm only trying to give you an
answer to your question :-). But as I've reverted the removal of support
for your Perl version that's a moot discussion anyway, isn't it?

I think I have tried adding an extra command to the PCP setting and
added a "-c" in Codec settings. I tried to undo this but it didn't work.
However, having unsynced the players, I can now play all file types in
SLX again but not in PCP.

This is interesting. Thank you I was unaware of the availability of
updated firmware. Great!

I think it might have to do with loggin in to last.fm. The synology
often has a clock that tends to lag so handshake will fail but should
not prevent files from playing.

Thanks for your help, but I am afraid that you over-estimate my
knowledge. I am not a programmer nor a Linux expert. I occasionally
build + install software from source code, but only with the help of
clear and complete instructions.
=> What is the exact file name and location of the "main script" that
you mention? Can the path to the perl binary be modified after
installation of LMS? Or is it needed to modify the script before
building LMS from source code? FYI I use the amd64.deb package for
installation of LMS, and the location of LMS is
/usr/share/squeezeboxserver.

2022-01-11 Thread Michael Herger

Thanks, @mherger. I realize that the ReadyNAS platform is dated and as
good as EOL. I'll probably be moving LMS to a Pi instance in the next
year or so. I've been dragging my feet because running it on the
ReadyNAS has been my ideal use case; the Pi will allow me to be more up
to date but will require some extra hoops (like mounting and pointing to
external shares on the NAS).

It's worth the hassle! Even though my NAS is plenty powerful I at some
point went the Pi route anyway, just because it gives me more freedom
without much more hassle.

I am working on updating my OS, it is work in progress. At this moment I
can dual boot between Lubuntu 16.04 and Linux Mint 20.3 XFCE. But being
a perfectionist it always takes me quite some time to tweak a new system
to my likings. For example, on my newly build Linux Mint XFCE server I
have now certain access right problems when remotely accessing this
server, while i do not have these problem when booting into my existing
Lubuntu 16.04.

Thank you very much for adding back perl 5.22! I can confirm that
Logitech Media Server Version: 8.3.0 - 1641914771 @ Tue 11 Jan 2022 is
now working on my system with perl 5.22.

With respect to my other question about updating perl on an existing
system: I read on multiple places that it is a bad idea to replace an
existing system perl version with a new perl version because of
dependencies. It is advised to add a new perl version while keeping the
old one, and that is what I did.
=> Does anybody know about a way to tell LMS that it should use the
newly installed /usr/local/bin/perl version instead of the default
system perl version?

[PS: I recently came across an AAC radio stream that does not play on my
existing Linux system with perl 5.22, while it does play on the new
(work in progress) Linux system that comes with perl 5.30. So it is
clear that I need to move to a more recent perl version, either by
making use of a new perl version installed on my existing system, or by
moving to a new OS that comes with a recent perl version.]

Today I uploaded 8.3.0_1641914771 but LMS doesn't seem to be running

According to the GUI, the LMS software does appear to be running, but

What can I do to check for issues and troubleshoot the root cause? And
how do I revert to earlier 8.3 nightlies?

Yes. I thought it was time to cut some slack. I didn't expect 5+ years

Will that also be the case in the next releases? This would probably
mean that LMS can not be run anymore on servers running Ubuntu 16.04

I can add 5.22 back. No worries. But don't you think it's time to update
your system's OS? It must be full of vulnerabilities... and it's not an

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS 8.3.0 perl versions support

2022-01-11 Thread CJS

Hello all. This is a rather long post. Therefore I have highlighted my
main observations and questions in *bold* text.
Thanks in advance for taking the time to read (the highlights of) this
post.

I am running LMS 8.3.0 on a low power Lubuntu 16.04.7 server. This
version of Lubuntu comes with perl version 5.22.1. See system
information below.

Logitech Media Server Version: 8.3.0 - 1641226195 @ Mon 03 Jan 2022
05:39:01 PM CET
Hostname: ATOM
Server IP Address: 192.168.0.101
Server HTTP Port Number: 9000
Operating system: Debian - EN - utf8
Platform Architecture: x86_64-linux
Perl Version: 5.22.1 - x86_64-linux-gnu-thread-multi
Audio::Scan: 0.95
IO::Socket::SSL: 2.024
Database Version: DBD::SQLite 1.58 (sqlite 3.22.0)

This morning I updated to the *latest LMS 8.3.0 - 1641835163 dated 10
Jan 2022*, using the logitechmediaserver_8.3.0~1641835163_amd64.deb
package.
=> BUT AFTER INSTALLATION LMS FAILED TO START!

The reason seems to be that the latest LMS 8.3.0 Linux amd64.deb version
has dropped support for perl 5.22 and lower.
After reverting to LMS 8.3.0 dd Mon 03 Jan 2022, LMS is running again.

Folder /usr/share/squeezeboxserver/CPAN/arch of LMS 8.3.0 dd * 03 Jan*
contains the following folders with perl modules:
5.18, 5.20, 5.22, 5.24, 5.26, 5.28, 5.30, 5.32

Folder /usr/share/squeezeboxserver/CPAN/arch of LMS 8.3.0 dd *10 Jan*
contains the following folders with perl modules:
5.24, 5.26, 5.28, 5.30, 5.32, 5.34

THE GIT COMMIT LOG OF LMS 8.3.0 DD 10 JAN MENTIONS: \"ADD PERL 5.34
SUPPORT FOR LINUX X86_64\"
WHAT IT DOES NOT MENTION BUT WHAT SEEMS TO BE THE CASE IS THAT SUPPORT
FOR PERL 5.18, 5.20 AND 5.22 HAS BEEN REMOVED.
That may also explain why the 10 Jan amd64.deb package is circa 6MB
smaller than the 03 Jan amd64.deb package.

My question to @mherger:
=> Was it a deliberate choice to remove support for Perl 5.22 in the
latest LMS 8.3.0 nightly build?
Will that also be the case in the next releases? This would probably
mean that LMS can not be run anymore on servers running Ubuntu 16.04
flavors.

*PS: I have tried to update the perl version on my Lubuntu 16.04 server
by building Perl 5.32.1 from source*. The build went OK and the result
is that I have now two perl versions on my system.
The old "system" perl in folder /usr/bin and the new "local" perl in
folder /usr/local/bin:

/usr/bin/perl -v
This is perl 5, version 22, subversion 1 (v5.22.1) built for
x86_64-linux-gnu-thread-multi

/usr/local/bin/perl -v
This is perl 5, version 32, subversion 1 (v5.32.1) built for
x86_64-linux-thread-multi

*Apparently LMS is still using the old /usr/bin/perl version
Is there a way to tell LMS that it should use the new
/usr/local/bin/perl version?*

On Firmware: 8.0.1-r16862 the wifi signal strength is still there. BUT,
I just noticed that the signal strength was given for my 2 radios, but
not for my Touch. Hmmm until I remembered that the Touch is LAN
wired!
