[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Some of my iTunes AAC rips won't play

2017-03-22 Thread rojikewl

I'm having a weird problem playing some albums that I ripped using
iTunes. The files are saved with the M4A extension, and for only some of
them I get a message from LMS that it couldn't open the file. If an
album has 10 tracks, I might be able to play all but three of them. I
have no problem playing the files in question using other software, like
Media Monkey. Also, if I add the songs to my Amazon library, they
usually get matched and if I download the matched MP3s from Amazon,
those files work fine. Can anyone tell me what is going on? Thanks in
advance.

Alexa is always listening, but she does have a button that turns off her
microphones.

She always temporarily mutes playback when you say the wake word. Unless
of course you have turned her up so loud that she can't hear you over
what she is playing.

With your question about "play kiss" I can say that she rarely asks for
clarification. Usually she'll just go with her best guess, and you have
to try again if she's wrong. Sometimes she will say "You want to hear
xxx by xxx, right?"

Amazon is pushing its new Amazon Music Unlimited service big time right
now. I got an e-mail talking about Alexa's "song of the day" feature.
Apparently it used to be called "Song of the Day for Prime Members," but
when I tried to check it out today Alexa played a rather long and
annoying ad for Amazon Music Unlimited. The Song of the Day is now only
available to Music Unlimited subscribers.

I find it to be quite good. You can say "Alexa, play the song xxx by
xxx" or "...the song xxx from the album xxx" and she usually gets it
right and the music starts playing very quickly. When she doesn't get
something you help her out by using the Alexa app.

I have one of the original Echo devices, which can only connect to other
systems via Bluetooth. The newer Echo Dot has both Bluetooth and a line
out.

I really like the Echo for listening to news, asking for the weather,
setting timers and alarms, etc., but I much prefer to use my Squeezebox
system for music, because it is connected to the sound systems I want to
use, because of the synchronization and now because of Tidal.

I have often wished that Alexa could play through LMS! The original
Kindle software was based on software from a company called Mobipocket,
and Kindle e-books are still Mobipocket-compatible. It has occurred to
me many times that Amazon should use LMS for synchronization between
Alexa and Squeezebox devices.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Issues with Tidal (v1.2 plugin) by Logitech

2016-10-30 Thread rojikewl

I've been using Tidal on my Squeezebox system for some time now, and I
have noticed that playlists and albums often don't have all of the
tracks that appear in the same playlists and albums on the Tidal website
and in Tidal apps. Just yesterday I was going through some of my
"favorite" tracks on Tidal to see if I could play them using LMS, and
for some tracks that appeared on multiple albums, only one of them would
play through LMS. Right now, however, Tidal seems to be working very
well through LMS, with just about everything that I look for showing up
and being playable! It's better than it's ever been. If any testing is
needed, I'd be glad to help.

By the way, people in this thread have compared Logitech Tidal to
ickStream Tidal, and now I'm a little confused. I remember that when I
first set up Tidal with LMS I did set up ickStream. Was that a plugin
that is not listed on the Plugins tab in LMS settings? I seem to recall
seeing an ickStream app on mysqueezebox.com, but I don't see one there
now. Anyway, I had to do a clean installation of Windows on a new hard
drive, and LMS was one of the many things I had to reinstall. Tidal
continued to work for me, so was I somehow seamlessly migrated from
ickStream Tidal to Logitech Tidal? Are there any significant differences
between the two?

Finally, I would like to thank Michael, who I understand is responsible
for the continuing development of LMS. I finally installed version 7.9
(previously I was using 7.7.5, since that is what's on the
mysqueezebox.com site) recently, and the improvements are fantastic.
This system was so far ahead of its time. I wish Logitech would bring
back a Squeezebox line of devices. I never even knew it existed until I
started looking around for something I vaguely imagined an "Internet
radio" would be. Little did I know that the Squeezebox Touch I ended up
choosing was part of such an incredibly versatile and useful system.
