The UI I use is Material on a tablet running the material app.
I have quite a large collection (some 44 albums) so not sure how well
the shuffle option would work but it's something to try so thanks for
the idea.
It's that time of year again when I start playing Christmas tunes.
I have a seperate genre for all my Christmassy tunes - is there a simple
way to play a random mix from this one genre?
When I have friends over it would be good to have that playing in the
background.
I had this problem recently with a test set up on my PC
LMS defaults to using mysqueezebox.com to resize artwork and as I was
not logged in this fails effectively stalling the scan.
Make sure you've selected "Use Logitech Media Server to resize artwork":
If you store your music on a local HDD then I would recomend either the
Odroid hc1 if 2.5" drive or the hc2 for 3.5".
These effectively have there own case (the heatsink) which holds the
drive.
Relatively easy to set up if you use armbian which has an armbian-config
program to do the basic
Um - if I tick the "List compilation albums under each artist" option
then the artist list shows all artists - not sure what effect this will
have elsewhere though.

while this does not include composers in the list it only seems to have
Album artists.

Have tried with that option selected and it hasn't made any difference -
still getting composers in the all artist list.:(

I'm in the process of trying to sort my artist tags and being confused
(very easy to do!) as composers also appear in the all artist list.
I can't find anywhere to stop this behaviour - is it possible to prevent
composers being shown?

No I don't think so - I haven't changed any plugins apart from updating
the UPnP/DNLA Bridge and this I did after this problem started.

When I do a scan using 'Look for new and changed media files' it is no
longer doing the 'opimise database' function.
Also it doesn't write anything to the scanner log, instead this is
written to the server log.
I can't see any errors in the log - it just doesn't seem to run the
optimization
I've got a portable version of LMS based on a CubieTruck - for some
reason it's stopped doing the database optimisation when doing a 'Look
for New media files':

You don't say what LMS is running on - If it's a pi or something
similiar it could be a sign that the sd card is on it's way out.
I had exactly the same problem when I ran LMS on a pi.

I had a similar problem with after installing 7.9 on a standard Raspian
image (on a pi2) - this was fixed after installing lame, flac, sox and
faad which are not included in the standard repro - I would have thought
that these were part of the Max2Play package though.
