Excuse me for my ignorance , but what exactly does the "helper" do in
regards to the spotty plugin?
It does eg. handle authentication. Or playback. Quite important features ;-)

Spotty doesn't have helpers for *BSD built in. You'd have to either try
to use the Spotty BSD plugin somebody is providing. But that's an
outdated version of the spotty helper. Or you try to
So I upgraded my spotty plugin and noticed my scan is failing during the

Well I stand corrected. I checked it again today and it is indeed
running 8.3. It's been a few days since I did the upgrade, but I have
upgraded some plugins since then which required me to start/start the
LMS. Would it be possible the manual LMS start/stop did something?
Thanks

Hmmm, ran the lms-installer, from what i could tell it updated the
installer package. I then ran it again and it updated LMS to 8.2.1 ? I
was expecting 8.3? TrueNAS is @ 12.0-U2 if that helps?
I should mention everything has been rock solid with both a large
library < 90K songs and 8 players.

Nice thread ... using TrueNas, but just for the music library. The LMS
running on a VM. TrueNas is such a great platform.

Yep, that seemed to work, I have scanned twice now and the playlists

Once again thank you!

Not that I remember and since bugs.slimdevices.com has been retired, it
makes finding those kinds of answers difficult.
The alac_decoder sources

How about the following clarifications that will help others understand
what to do:
1. State that the build presented is an example, and that followers of
the instructions to get the current stable release that can be found at
...
2. Clarify the tools and CPAN libraries should come from a fork.

That's unlikely to happen because it would mean that for every new
release of every dependencies I should update all the link every time,
the guide is still a valid example.
Cool! Thank you.
Are you going to update your instructions at

BTW, I've just released the update with ALAC transcoding fixed. You can
update from lms_installer. Thanks for reporting this problem :D

Simone: Re: changes to conver.conf:
Instead of using faad, use the tool bound to "[alac]".
What tool is that exactly? Is it the alac_decoder tool that, in the
reply from Ralphy, he says is not used?
If so, maybe we should review

Hello Simone,
Thank you for the additional clarification.
I am going to reach out to titou386, and see if I can get him to produce
a better plug-in package for TrueNAS. I totally agree that it should
not fall to you to create such a one-off.
I had originally believed that titou386 had been

Hello Simone,
I learned from my husband what exactly was done to install LMS. He used
the pre-packaged plugin with the TrueNAS 12.2 Release.
I found the dev tree at the ix-plugin-hub on github. The checkin to

Hello Simone,
Thank you very much for your helpful Wiki page, 'Logitech Media Server
and FreeBSD/FreeNAS' (https://audiodigitale.eu/?p=87).
It enabled my husband and me to get LMS up and happy on our spanking new
TrueNAS server under FreeBSD 12.
Everything worked so well, I was surprised when

Hi!
A while ago I've written a guide to compile and install LMS on *BSD
based systems ('here' (https://audiodigitale.eu/?p=87)).
But compiling everything for every update is quite tedious, the port of
LMS in FreeBSD is broken and not updated and there is no package
available to install.
So I
