Noticed that I had a pre-installed Picture gallery plugin with the
default path /share/HDA_DATA/ set. That would very much cover my photo
folders. Still concerned though. I haven't scanned images what I'm aware
of and if so final library would sum up considerably more files than
expected. Briefly

That file should be called in your startup/service script.
If you use the one thats deliveres with lms you might notice that part:

I should also point out that I removed the SSOTS package from my NAS and
reinstalled it to have some kind of clean installation with no old stuff
messing things up. But there might be traces from a former scan, db,
cache or whatever stuck in some corners of the Qnap that I don't know
of...

Yes, my first thought was that there must be some kind of peculiar
connection to these images somewhere in my
Upgraded my LMS from 7.7.2 to 7.9 the other week. Since installation the
server crashes every day. Everytime after image scaling complaints in
the server log looking like this:
