I have vehicles that will be taking a left/right turn or move straight
ahead at the next intersection.
I would like to do the following -
Have an edge with a large width (with sublanes) and make vehicles choose
these sublanes based on the turn they will take at the next intersection.

you can place detectors on so-called internal lanes.
This should be considered experimental and there is currently no support
for this in netedit.
You must obtain the lane id corresponding from sumo-gui as explained here:
