It doesn't seem so difficult: just 28 pictures, one every 24h51m28s,
preferably
in winter months (winter because night time is longer and because the full
moon culminates higher at noon).

Last week I came across a nice web on gnomonics
that distributes (completely free!) a nice Gnomonical
Calculator, called SOLARIUM and written by P.J. Dallet..
Perhaps the calculator is not for beginners and some
parts are still French-only, but anyway the whole web
is worthwhile having a glance
This question goes to the shadow-sharpeners experts:
Which is better (or worst) to observe the transit of Venus,
a shadow-sharpener or a welding glass? Or both are more
or less equally bad?
