[freenet-support] How to force my choice of browser.

2010-06-22 Thread David Vanderschel

I just installed Freenet. When I ran it the first time, it came
up in Firefox, suggesting that I should not use the same browser
as I normally use for everything else - which is Firefox. So I
switched over to Chrome (incognito), and proceeded with the
configuration. I figured it would pick up on the fact that I
used

Chrome to do so, and that Chrome would become my browser for
Freenet. But no joy! It keeps coming up in Firefox.
I cannot figure out how to force it use Chrome.
(I would expect a configuration option for this on
Freenet Tray. I have tried a number of searches, none of which
pan out.) Is there a way?

Thanks for any help,
 David V.

Hi there,
I have the same problem as described here:
https://freenetproject.org/view.php?id=2949

The Download page will not load, spits out a Internal error Return to queue
page. message.

Is there a way to rectify the problem without losing all the download keys?

thanks

Something is screwed up with the file. I hit 19% transfer before the

I suspect the file is corrupted.

I'm grabbing 1249 and attempting with that.
1249 worked. Online and testing the waters.

I've had this bug many times. I still have no idea what caused it, or
if it has been fixed. It's been a while since I last saw it. The only
solution, I believe, is to shut down freenet, delete your node.db4o
file and then restart freenet. You will lose your download/upload
queues.

I am now rebuilding most of my apps, and I think it is due
to my downloading and installing your proggie. Immediately upon starting
your app, my cpu usage jumped to 100% and stayed there. Suddenly, Firefox
would only respond for five seconds out of each 15, and video playback was
almost impossible, whether I tried WMP, VLC, or gomplayer.

I have an AMD 5000 Black running at a mild overclock, XP Pro, and
8 GB ram. I have not run into anything like this for many years. Dunno what
you guys did, but no thanks.

Okay. Thanks for taking the trouble to tell us. I am not sure exactly what the
problem is: Freenet runs at BELOW_NORMAL priority, so even if it does use the
CPU heavily (and it shouldn't, most of the time), other applications should get
to run first.

Generally the causes of heavy CPU usage in Freenet are:
- Running out of memory. The settings in wrapper.conf determine how much memory
Freenet can use, and if it is approaching the limit it can end up using a lot
of CPU to try to scavenge the last few bytes. The solution is to increase the
limit. We have some code for auto-detection but it's not deployed yet, sorry.
- Filesharing. Decoding and encoding splitfiles, compressing and decompressing,
if you queue downloads or especially uploads you can expect periods of very
high CPU usage.

No, not at present. However you can create a shortcut which opens Chrome in
incognito mode pointing to http://127.0.0.1:/ . chrome -incognito url or
something.

No. Most people don't subscribe, send a message, and ignore the rejection
message. Which means manual moderation is necessary, and most people posting

It would be very helpful if you could get us a more detailed error message. A
stack trace should be present in your logs/freenet-latest.log (this rotates
once an hour so open the page and then open the log in notepad). A stack trace
looks something like this:

Jun 22, 2010 16:11:23:275 (freenet.node.NodeClientCore$DBJobWrapper, Client
database access thread(11), ERROR): Failed to run database job

Look for something like the above - an ERROR follow by a bunch of lines
starting at.

Sorry.

If freenet.ini.tmp exists, rename it to freenet.ini. If not, reinstall.

This is a bug that was accidentily released recently, sorry. To fix it, go
to the directory you have Freenet installed and find freenet.ini.tmp and
rename it to freenet.ini (you may have to change your Windows folder view
settings to see the filename extensions)
