[freenet-support] Freenet stable 5038/unstable 6340

2003-11-18 Thread Toad
Freenet stable build 5038 is now available. Upgrade using update.sh or
freenet-webinstall.exe, or get the jar from
http://freenetproject.org/snapshots/freenet.jar .

The major change is to reject requests from nodes before 5034. 5032
fixed a major bug relating to trailers, which may have been causing some
major problems manifesting in low sentData ratios. 5034 introduced
exponential backoff, a major load balancing feature which we need to be
widely deployed.

Freenet unstable build 6340 is also available. This build increases the
last good unstable build to 6333, and imposes a separate limit of build
5034 for the stable branch.

Subject: 5032 & FIW 0.07 - FEC Encoding problem?
Organization: Jera Systems

When I'm trying to upload a site containing a large file (~ 150 Mb) with FIW
0.07, I get the following error message in FIW when generating FEC check
chunks:

[Error] unexpected error while building check chunks!

This gets written to FIW log:

I can't find anything relevant in freenet.log when set to "Normal" logging
level - I can try "Debug" if this will help, but it eats valuable HDD space
_really_ quickly :-(, so I'm not sure if it will be able to log enough
information before I'll have to start rotating log files.

I can't verify at the moment if this is only relevant for build 5032, or any
previous "new stable" builds are affected as well. If any additional
information would help - I'll be happy to provide it.

Is this a bug with FIW/Freenet or am I doing something stupid?

Regards,
Victor Denisov.

Re: [freenet-support] minor bug webinstaller

2003-11-18 Thread Dave Hooper
Could you tell me under what circumstances the webinstaller will try to
overwrite itself while running please? I see this only happening if you
first download the webinstaller into the freenet application folder, and
then run it, which is not really intended. If that is what you do (and if
it is indeed common) then maybe I'll code for that behaviour. This
intention is kinda that you just run (rather than download-and-save) the
webinstaller!

[freenet-support] minor bug webinstaller

2003-11-18 Thread Jan
This is probably a well known bug but it still persists.

The web installer tries to overwrite itself which of course isn't
possible since it is in use.

This can be circumvented by putting the installer in a different
folder so it's not that much of a problem, just a bit confusing.

[freenet-support] Question on IPNetRouter for Macintosh

2003-11-18 Thread Jan
Hi,

Just checking if I filled out the Port Mapping right.

I have Freenet running on a win98 PC behind the IPNR router/firewall.
Yeah, I know 98 isn't recommended, w98, w2k and xp just don't play
well together on this box.

In the Port Mapping window I added a line:
Protocol: TCP
Apparent Endpoint: :
Actual Endpoint: 192.168.0.2:
Flags: P S (Permanent and Static)
I find the IPNR documentation pretty confusing, probably because I
don't understand much of networking. So if anyone can say the above
is okay, I can sleep again .

Freenet does work be it very badly. Lately I also don't get past the
warning page but that has been better, I've seen a couple of sites.
Fuqid has managed to get a few files, Freenet Message Board starts up
but doesn't show a single message, Frost idem dito.

Guess I need to leave Freenet running in hope of better times. When
there will be a Mac OS9 version, perhaps.

Thanks for any answer.
