make trouble (libgobject-2.0.la is missing)

2009-08-20 Thread d...@pochtamt.ru
Hello.

Pidgin 2.6.0 make fails with:
/bin/grep: /usr/lib/libgobject-2.0.la: No such file or directory
/bin/sed: can't read /usr/lib/libgobject-2.0.la: No such file or directory
libtool: link: `/usr/lib/libgobject-2.0.la' is not a valid libtool archive
make[5]: *** [dbus-example.la] Error 1

But libgobject-2.0 is installed. It just hasn't .la file:
# ls -al /usr/lib | grep libgobject
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1062458 2009-04-22 15:19 libgobject-2.0.a

libgobject-2.0.so.0.1800.2
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 26 2009-07-30 11:20 libgobject-2.0.so.0
- libgobject-2.0.so.0.1800.2
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 268400 2009-04-22 15:19
libgobject-2.0.so.0.1800.2

Tried to reinstall libs from repositories - no result.
There was not such problem with pidgin 2.5.8 on the same system.
Could you please direct me in right way?
How can I generate .la files for all libraries, or install pidgin
without them?

P.S. OS: OpenSuse 11.1

I can't see this plugin in the list, maybe it was removed when the

Is guess there is no alternative for this?

You can also subscribe to sourceforge's release notification. They have a
 rss feed as well.

not sure if I got the right one, did you mean this one:
http://sourceforge.net/export/rss2_keepsake.php?group_id=235

it's kind of noisy because it is based on files and not releases but if
nothing else is available I'll be ok with this feed.

Please delete all my thread and emails to you completely.

No where does it state my email sent to your support will be displayed for

I do not want someome to simply google my name and find conversations of me

I don't think you understand. Pidgin support is done via a mailing
list, there is no physical support department, everything is done by a
combination of the developers and users who help out.

If you want help with your original problem then that's what happens,
mailing list archives are common.

Re: Re: gstreamer+plugins in 2.6.1

2009-08-20 Thread David Woodfall

On (01:55 20/08/09), Ka-Hing Cheung k...@pidgin.im put forth the proposition:

On Thu, Aug 20, 2009 at 06:22:04AM +0100, da...@localhost.localdomain wrote:

Hi,

I just had the good news today that voice and video is now supported.
That's awesome. Well done and thanks.

A few of us from ##slackware have been trying it out with
unfortunately little success. Tried to build all the latest gstreamer
stuff that we could find that would compile (some didn't).

Just wondering what plugins etc are needed/recommended to install?

This is what I have right now:

gst-ffmpeg-0.10.4-i686-1_SBo
gst-plugins-bad-0.10.13-i686-1_SBo
gst-plugins-base-0.10.24-i686-1
gst-plugins-good-0.10.15-i686-1_SBo
gst-plugins-ugly-0.10.11-i686-1_SBo
gst-python-0.10.16-i686-1_daw
gstreamer-0.10.24-i686-1
libnice-0.0.9-i686-1_daw
farsight2-0.0.14-i686-1_daw

So far I've only managed to hear garbled voices or clicking sounds,
but one guy says he could hear me a little better :-)

So, any ideas what to look at to get this working? Any other packages
needed etc?

One guy in #pidgin reported that he just had voice working with:

 libnice 0.0.9
 farsight2-0.0.14
 gst-python 0.10.12
 gstreamer 0.10.24
 gst-plugis-base 0.10.24
 gst-plugins-good 0.10.15
 gst-plugins-bad 0.10.13
 gst-plugins-ugly 0.10.12
 gst-ffmpeg 0.10.8

Having compile options with newer ugly that I need look at. So far two
of us have audio with these versions:

gst-plugins-good-0.10.15-i686-1_SBo
gst-plugins-bad-0.10.13-i686-1_SBo
gst-plugins-ugly-0.10.11-i686-1_SBo
gst-ffmpeg-0.10.8-i686-1_SBo
gst-python-0.10.16-i686-1_daw
gst-plugins-base-0.10.24-i686-1
gstreamer-0.10.24-i686-1
libnice-0.0.9-i686-1_daw
farsight2-0.0.14-i686-1_daw

Not had video working yet, but will carry on testing this evening.

Cheers

David

The difference is he seems to have a newer gst-plugins-ugly. I just pointed
him to ##slackware, so maybe he can help you out.

[META] Public mailing list nature of supp...@pidgin (was: Please help)

2009-08-20 Thread David Woolley

You should probably says public mailing list!

Whilst this is what any regular user of open source software, or even
commercial loss leader free software, would expect, a lot of people
seem to be making this mistake.

Given the apparent market for Pidgin, which is not very aware of typical
open source support mechanisms, it might be worth reviewing the
documentation to make sure that it is made explicit that support
requests go immediately into the public domain (confidentiality sense).

combination of the developers and users who help out.

Actually one should be trying to encourage people to look at the
archives. We would get hardly any MXit queries if MXit users looked
there before posting.

Also, if people can submit without subscribing, it might be worth
educating users that they need to copy to the poster, when replying.
Although this is becoming more and more common on lists, long term list
users don't expect two copies and don't expect to copy everyone when
they reply. (I'm not copying you here, only because I assume you are an
experienced list user.)

Emails are not formal business letters, whatever businesses may want.
RFC1855 says there should be an address here, but, in a world of spam,
that is no longer good advice, as archive address hiding may not work.
