The application isn't encrypted. There is no point as it is open source, so anyone can see how it works. It supports encryption using the same sort of encryption library as used by most open source software, OpenSSL. Headquartered is not a meaningful term for a lot of open source software, and I think that is the case for Pidgin; it is a distributed development by an informal group of people. I think OpenSSL itself is managed from outside the USA, so, whilst Pidgin packages from the USA may be subject to US export restrictions, I imagine ones have been built outside the USA. Of course the services themselves tend to be based in the USA, so will probably refuse connections from people assumed to be associated with embargoed countries, and might run unencrypted for others. Some countries probably still ban the import of encryption software for use by their general public. ___ Support@pidgin.im mailing list Want to unsubscribe? 1) Pidgin is just an application that connects to existing services, and provides none itself. There's no privacy concerns there. a) You can find the source here if you want to verify: https://bitbucket.org/pidgin/main/src/default/ 2) Most of the services you listed no longer exist/function (AIM/MSN/Yahoo have all been shut down), but many are supported. Re: inquiry: accessibility
Hi Ms. Hahn! I think what you are describing is doable using Pidgin (with a potential fallback on writing a plugin or modifying the source code which is under an open source licence) and that Pidgin should run fine on Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. That put aside, pidgin being a gtk+ app may not play nice with Windows' accessibility features and you may wish to look at more native Windows instant messaging clients such as https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miranda_IM and http://www.miranda-ng.org/en/ which may work better for you in this respect. inquiry: accessibility
I've not found the information I'd like to know. I suspect you are aware, but maybe not, that the free Yahoo Messenger and Aim chats have been so stripped down of features that for anyone with any type of disability, particularly visual, they are no longer universally friendly chat programs. We are on the hunt for a free chat program that will allow us to modify it to our needs. We need to be able to use large fonts, colored text, and optional change of color backgrounds (i.e white text, black background and vice-versa). We all have visual and physical challenges, and we rely heavily on using online chats to stay in contact. Is any of this possible with your program. We also have either windows 8.1 or windows 10 OS, so is Pidgin compatible with them? Thank you for taking the time to read this inquiry, and we look forward to hearing from you.Sincerely, A. Inquiry - Automatic Pidgin Status Update When Using Software
Good afternoon, I am simply wondering if there is an easy way to get the Pidgin status message to update itself to Program X in use... automatically when I am using a certain program (thus letting Buddies know that the program is in-use, since we are working with a network license). Similarly, the status should be changed back to Available when the program is closed. I am not much of a programmer, but I can easily follow any instructions to make this adjustment if necessary. I would appreciate knowing whether or not this is feasible or if a plug-in will need to be developed. If a plug-in is required, would someone be kind enough to implement one? Martin spake unto us the following wisdom: Thanks very much for the rapid response. This seems like an easy implementation to me. However, as stated, my programming skills are limited. If you are able to take the time to provide me with a step-by-step walkthrough of what to do, I would be very grateful. I am running WinXP exp pack 3... I don't know anything about Windows. I'm returning this to the list. Ethan signature.asc Description: Digital signature ___ Support@pidgin.im mailing list Want to unsubscribe?
