Moving profiles from SM to Firefox/Thunderbird

2015-06-24 Thread Patrick Crumhorn

Hi - since it increasingly appears that SeaMonkey for Windows is becoming abandonware, and I'm
concerned about the resultant security vulnerabilities, what are the procedures for transferring
bookmarks, mail address books, and password manager data from SM to Firefox/Thunderbird? I use
Windows 7 Home Premium and SM 2.33.1.

Thanks.

Re: Windows 10

2015-06-03 Thread Patrick Crumhorn

I've never installed a new Windows OS until it's been out for at yeast a year and/or has had it's
first full Service Pack released. Way too many chances for bugs and incompatibilities otherwise.

I've been reading that W10 will probably be Released To Manufacturing (RTM) in
late July.
I also read that with Win7, 8, and 8.1, there was a significant time gap
between RTM and
general availability — time enough for Microsoft to fix the really bad problems
after the
software "shipped," but before it was widely available.

Finally, I also read that W7 and W8.1 machines will be offered a free upgrade
to Win10
during the first year (starting point not defined).

Now my wife and I have received announcements of a free upgrade of our two W7
machines to
W10. Apparently we can reserve an upgrade, and at some (undefined) point we will
automatically receive a W10 download.

This is all a bit confusing, and makes us uncomfortable (getting a forced
download at some
vague point).

Thoughts, anyone? A good idea? Is W10 really ready? Impact on drivers, etc?
What about Sea
Monkey? General reactions, informed or otherwise?

Thank you for all ideas and advice.

Except for the SM question the best place to ask is the w10 group:

No multiple downloads with SM 2.9.1

2012-05-01 Thread Patrick Crumhorn

Since patching to SM 2.9.1 this morning, multiple downloads are broken. I used to be able (as of
last night even) to go to a site and start a download of an audio file from an html link, then do
another one or two at the same time, but now when I start a new download, it will not start unless I
pause the download already in progress. And the paused d/l will not restart until I pause or
complete or kill the other one. This is a real problem - any suggested workarounds? (Using XP
Professional, btw).

Thanks! I figured that was the case, but just wanted that extra bit of assurance that the security
issue was indeed fixed in this update. :)

Saw the same thing here. I also downloaded the SeaMonkey2.3.2.dmg from

image of what appears to be SeaMonkey version 2.3.2 but it actually is
version 2.3.1 when I copied to my hard drive and opened it. Can
someone check what happened to the real version 2.3.2?

Thank you,

Sending mail to trash in SM 2.0.x

2011-04-03 Thread Patrick Crumhorn

Hi - hope this isn't dumb question time, but I'm stumped. When I delete items from my mail inbox,
some of them go into the trash folder, while others just disappear. All messages flagged as "junk"
are sent to trash, but deleted non-junk messages just vanish, it seems. This is occasionally
inconvenient when I want to recover a deleted message from the trash. I can't find any setting that
allows me to control this behavior. Help?

My very large password file, while *appearing* to migrate (there is

should.

Shut down SM2.0. Locate your profile and delete signons.sqlite. Restart
SM2.0. If this doesn't work it probably means that there is a lot of
random cruft the the migration code doesn't understand especially if you
had this profile since mozilla suite 1.x.

.exe file. No sign of it in Task Manager processes either. Fortunately
my 1.1.18 is untouched, so I'll probably use that for the foreseeable
future. I'd hate to have to switch to FF and TB since I've used the
suite since Navigator 4 but this just isn't working for me.

Oh, the only parent.lock file I found anywhere was in my old SeaMonkey
profile, none in the SM 2 directories at all. I deleted it as suggested,
but no effect.

Go to Mozdev at <http://www.mozdev.org/> for quick access to
extensions for Firefox, Thunderbird, SeaMonkey, and other
Mozilla-related applications. You can access Mozdev much
more quickly than you can Mozilla Add-Ons.

I had 1.1.18 installed and running fine. I downloaded 2.0 (just a
little while ago), installed it (no problems), then, like David it
asked if I wanted to run. I said yes and nothing happened. I also
double-clicked the SM icon in the SM folder: nothing.

I have only one profile and I did not uninstall 1.1.18. I looked in
the SeaMonkey folder and the seamonkey.exe file had a date from
September. I would have expected it to have an October date.

I have reloaded 1.1.18 but am disappointed with the 2.0 problem. I'm
running XP-SP3.

Thanks for any help.
