I compared the settings for my two E-mail addresses in great detail and

have recently purchased a smart phone and use an app named Blue Mail

Try spoofing with "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:43.0)

Need opinion on a browser situation

2016-06-29 Thread stan pierce
I have been using an application named PeaPod for ordering groceries
online and having them delivered to my home. They are affiliated with
Stop and Shop.

A few days ago they installed a new program. One of the problems I am
having is that one of the main screens has a number of boxes across the
screen for selecting what you want to do. The problem I am having is
that the left most box does not appear in my window and there is no
scroll option for getting to it.

I have notified PeaPod of this problem and was told that they do not
support Firefox or Internet Explorer and that I should install Google
Chrome. I just responded t them that every application I use works fine
with Firefox (I am really using SM) and Internet Explorer. I informed
them that their software people probably developed the application with
Google Chrome and that they need to fix it so it works with Firefox and
Internet Explorer.

Does this make sense that applications are being developed that require
Google Chrome?

Why did you say that It must be 12-15 pages ? In my pdf all what was
present on my screen is present in my pdf ... Foxit when i open the
pdf,... at bottom middle of the Foxit screen it's written "1 of 6".
and not "1 of 14".

That's the same thing I get when trying to print it, 1-6. But when you
look at the file online you can see that there are quite a few more
pages than what you get if you let it print 1-6. I solved my problem
by saving images of the screen and printing them out. Thanks.

I don't understand what you explain. On the file "online" there are at
least 15 rows of a table, but never 15 pages ...
It turns out that there are 9 pages, not 6. When I try to print the
file, it says there are 6 pages (the other 3 don't get printed). Must be
something in the coding of the HTM file that prevents SM from
recognizing all 9 pages.

The usual reasons Firefox/SeaMonkey won't print correctly are:
1. errors on the page (see validators below)
2. there are tables in the markup

Just under the word "View:", above the column heading for your accounts,
look for a little speckled rectangle and click it.

You can toggle each of the toolbars on or off the same way. When they're
showing, the speckled rectangle is the leftmost element.

1. On the SeaMonkey menu bar, select [Edit > Preference].

Well, I did it. Installed Windows 10. I have one big problem. the
text of received mail is so tiny I can't read it. Sometimes when I move

I must say I am not impressed with Windows 10.

The signature block is the text at the bottom of your message. Mine has
the correct -- (dash-dash-space) delimiter. When you quote my
message in a reply or forward, your mail or news application is supposed
to strip away the signature block from the message you are quoting.

Avast should have a setting to suppress the advertisement. In the AVG
anti-virus application, the advertisement is called certification.
AVG will add certification to incoming and outgoing messages, with
options to disable that separately for each of those.

How/where do I set the signature block?

Re: Seamonkey performance issue

2014-03-15 Thread stan pierce

NFN Smith wrote:

I have an odd/frustrating performance problem with Seamonkey 2.24
(although I've been seeing this for several previous versions), running
on Windows 7 Professional. Computer is a bit old, running an Intel
Mobile Core 2 Duo processor, and has 8 GB of RAM.

I use Seamonkey for both browser and mail/news, as well as occasional
work with the HTML composer tool.

Symptoms:

There are times when I'm working in Seamonkey, and I get temporary
freezes (typically 10-20 seconds), where Seamonkey refuses any kind of
input from either keyboard or mouse. When this happens, I can use
Alt-Tab to move from window to Window, but if I do a mouse-over, putting
the pointer over a Seamonkey icon in the Windows Taskbar, most of the
windows show a wait cursor. This happens whether I'm working in the
mail client, the browser, or even the composer. Sometimes, when this
happens, I'll get a switch of focus from one open Seamonkey window to
another (e.g., I'm composing an email message, and suddenly the focus
switches to the browser window).

When the problem happens, I'm not seeing any indication of overall
performance issues on the machine, just Seamonkey. A check of the
Windows Task Manager often shows relatively high CPU usage (up to about
50%) by Seamonkey, whether Seamonkey's memory usage is a few hundred MB,
or over a GB. Restarting Seamonkey seems not to have any effect.

I use Seamonkey on a number of machines, both Windows and Linux, but
this is the only place where I'm seeing this issue. This is my primary
working profile. I typically have 5-10 browser tabs open at a time. In
mail, I have 4 POP accounts active (no IMAP), as well as 4 news servers
defined, and a varying number of newsgroup subscriptions.

I know that the normal first thing to do when addressing performance
issues is to disable extensions (and I have about 30 extensions active),
but I'm finding pretty much the same behavior if I run in Safe Mode.
I've also seen and worked through suggestions relating to Flash
(including disabling the Flash plugin), but no improvement there, either.

To me, this one indicates some sort of background process that's active
(possibly related to mail), but I can't identify it.

I would consider my user profile to not be overly big -- even with a lot
of stored mail from POP accounts, the profile is less than 1 GB, and I'm
pretty aggressive about keeping my Inbox and trash folders pared down.

Given timing of the problem (sometimes, two or three times in an hour),
I'm wondering if there might be something related to POP settings. In
my main working account I have quite a few mail filters active, most for
delivering received content to folders, as well as several search
folders active.

Any ideas of what's happening, and how I might identify what's causing
this?

Smith

I'm getting these problems to the point of my system being unusable.
Often I notice that something is being transferred and checking Google
find that the site of the transfer is one of the sites where info is
duplicated for faster access. For example, akamaihd.net. I seem to run
OK if I switch to using I.E.

Oh yes, disabling add-ons does not solve the problem.

I have been struggling with this issue for nearly a month.

1. It is only a problem on my XP SP3 machines which also have less
memory and slower cpu. I have no problem on newer, faster machines
running Win 7.

2. On Facebook, the problem does not exist if I am on my Timeline. I
only see it on the Newsfeed when the bottom of the screen shows
continually loading data from somewhere like akamailhd.net (sp?). This
goes on forever on the XP machines but stops almost immediately on Win
7. On the XP machine, Task Manager shows SM using 90-95 % of the CPU so
everything grinds to a very slow pace.

3. I have limited success using IE Tab which lets your browser emulate
the IE browser. This is an improvement but still not anywhere near as
good as using IE or Google Chrome directly.

4. I have tried using a brand new Test profile using the SM defaults,
disabled all add-ons, starting in Safe mode. Nothing helps on my XP
computers. As I said earlier, there is no problem on my Win 7 machines.

I just tried using IE for FaceBook as well as a few other things like

suggests a problem with SeaMonkey, doesn't it?

How do I add to Helper applications so jpeg files won't end up in the
Download list?

If SM is automatically downloading them without asking, you must
already
have that file type listed. Look carefully through the helper
applications list, find the place where jpeg is listed as Save File,
and change it to the desired behavior. It should be easy to find, since
the default sort is alphabetical by content type -- look in the J's.

jpeg is not in my Helper list. Is there a way to add it?

Sorry, I'm out of ideas. Since the developers implemented the new
helpers list, I've often wondered how to add file types, never known the
answer.

Stan, it might be possible to fix this by editing the mimeTypes.rdf file
in your profile. The file is just XML, so you can use a standard text
editor to work with it. First, search in the file for 'jpeg' (case
insensitive). My entries in the file look thusly:

You'll want to make any changes to the file with SeaMonkey closed. Just
in case things go wonky, make a safe copy of the file before working
with it. Note also that my external application specification is
Mac-specific. If you're using Windows or Linux, you'll need to specify
your external application to suit.

How do I add to Helper applications so jpeg files won't end up in the
Download list?

If SM is automatically downloading them without asking, you must already
have that file type listed. Look carefully through the helper
applications list, find the place where jpeg is listed as Save File,
and change it to the desired behavior. It should be easy to find, since
the default sort is alphabetical by content type -- look in the J's.

jpeg is not in my Helper list. Is there a way to add it?

What does Archives do?

2014-01-11 Thread stan pierce
In my list of files where I can place incoming E-mail is an entry
'Archives'. There is no explanation of this in the Help section of
SeaMonkey, and I am wondering just what this will do for me and where
things will be put.

File Not Found message when invoking E-mail

2013-12-11 Thread stan pierce
When I first start up SM, the E-mail window (in the bottom section)
contains a heading File Not Found. The file
chrome://messenger/content/smtp.comcast.net cannot be found. Please
check the location and try again.

I just ignore this but wonder what this is about.

That's a pretty common thing to see, if you're running NoScript. There's
lots of sites that are script-heavy, especially ones that are there to
facilitate consumer-grade commerce. It's remarkable how many sites seem
to find it necessary to entertain you with animation and other
eye-candy, when it's not relevant to the site content. And of course,
there's lots of scripting that happens to facilitate ad delivery,
tracking and that kind of stuff. And there's legitimate uses for
scripts as well. In particular, for sites that require you to
authenticate yourself (especially banks and sites that handle credit
cards), it's common that the scripting is there to facilitate
authenticate processes. From that perspective, there's a similarity to
cookies -- you may need to allow cookies to authenticate yourself, but
at the same time, you don't need to allow third-party tracking cookies.
And at a lot of sites, even if you need to allow cookies for
www.example.com, it's safe to block cookies for metrics.example.com.

If you have NoScript installed, then there should be an icon for that at
the toolbar at the bottom of your Seamonkey window. Clicking there
shows a list of all the scripts at the page that you're looking at, and
their status, whether enabled or disabled. Options there include
temporary whitelisting, permanent whitelisting, or revoking temporary
whitelisting, both globally and for individual script engines.

Depending on the situation, I may temporarily whitelist everything, or I
may whitelist only individual sources. I find it remarkable the number
of sites that use ajax.googleapis.com, and sometimes, I can get what I
need by temporarily whitelisting just that one. And for a lot of sites,
I may permanently whitelist scripts that are delivered by the site
itself. Thus, for your particular example, if your bank is
hostiletakeoverbank.com, you might want to permanently whitelist them,
even if you don't whitelist some of the other other scripts, or
temporarily whitelist them, one at a time.

One other thing that I've found with script blocking is that sometimes
essential scripts are dependent on other scripts. Thus, at some sites,
I have to temporarily enable scripts two or three times, as some of the
scripts don't show up (and be blocked by NoScript) until other scripts
run.

The other thing that you can do with tuning NoScript, is that you can
customize the navigation toolbar, by dragging NoScript-specific icons
there. That's often easier than using the NoScript icon at the bottom of
the screen. On my own installation, I have both Temporarily Allow all
this Page and Revoke Temporary Permissions next to the address bar,
and I use both frequently.

I used Options/Advanced/XSS and set it to Sanitize cross-site suspicious
requests. With this setting, the bank login works. Is this a reasonable
way to handle the problem?

Idid not set the Sanitize..., The problem is caused when the Turn
cross-site POST... is checked.

Spoke to the support group at the bank and although they support about

By the way, the bank software is not checking the User Agent so they are

Installing SM with IE, need help.

2012-10-09 Thread stan pierce
I decided to do a new install of SM. Uninstalled existing version. Went to
IE and apparently downloaded SM. Found list of downloads, clicked on SM. Got
to asking me about who was installing and I picked current user as I don't
know admin p/w and I am an admin anyway.

That's the last thing that happened. No windows or anything. No indication
of completion.

Help, please. Stan

SeaMonkey wil not start after closing.

2009-09-08 Thread stan pierce
I posted about this in another post but the subject of the post may have
caused it to be overlooked so I am posting it again with a more meaningful
subject.

The essence of my problem is that after I install, setup, and use 1.1.18, if
I shutdown SM or my computer then I cannot get SM to start again.

When I click on the SM icon, I get the small
SeaMonkey window that has the SM icon and explains that SM is a suite et
al. I check the processes in the task manager and SM is there in the list.
I stop it

and try again and get the same thing.

The only way I can get SM to run is to uninstall it and reinstall it. But if
I shut it down, it won't restart.

This seems strange in that I had removed all traces of SM before
installing it. It started fine. Let me do everything. But won't restart
(or won't bring up the mail/news and browser windows.

Could it have anything to do with my 64 bit machine and/or Vista Home
Premium? I was running OK on 1.1.17 but I tried backing up to that and
it didn't run.

I've also downloaded 1.1.18 again.

All my other programs run fine. I've had to switch to IE in order to have
browser and mail. I really prefer to get back to SM.

Thanks

I cleared everything and reinstalled 1.1.18

2009-09-06 Thread stan pierce
I deleted every folder and file connected with SeaMonkey. I want to see
if I can shut down and then bring up SM again. If this works, I can
copy certain folders/files from my old computer into my new profile so I
can at least recover bookmarks, address book, E-mails.

At this moment SM is working, mail, newsgroups, browser.

I am about to close SM and see if I can click on the icon and start it up.

If that works, I will add to this thread. I have not been able to do
this all day. I am currently running with a Default profile.
