My SM 2.26.1 does NOT break links. They may be on several lines but

I have no idea how SM's line-wrapping stuff works, so take this post
with a big grain of salt.

Check your 'sent' folder -- if the copy there has a line break in the
middle of what should have been the URL, SM did it. If not, the
problem is probably on her end, in which case there's nothing you could
do other than run the URL through a URL shortener before pasting it.

In case SM is causing the break, toggling wrapping off before pasting
should be the answer. There's an extension that's supposed to make
toggling it easy,
.

Good point, Q, I hadn't thought about this, but checking just now in my
sent folder, and both links are shown over two lines, but when I mouse
over either the naked link or the link with-in the < >'s, in both cases
in the bottom line of the SM screen it showed the complete link.

So it must be something my sister's Microsoft Mail is doing!!

Try updating to the 2.42 release build here and see if it fixes it:
https://l10n.mozilla-community.org/~akalla/unofficial/seamonkey/nightly/latest-comm-release-windows32/
or
https://l10n.mozilla-community.org/~akalla/unofficial/seamonkey/nightly/latest-comm-release-linux32/

Going to http://www.seamonkey-project.org/ seems to indicate SM 2.39 is
the latest release.

These SM 2.42 links are not for RC's as they feature the word
"nightly"!! I'm happy to play with Betas or R.C.'s but not nightly's, so
waiting waiting!!

The specific part of
https://blog.mozilla.org/meeting-notes/archives/2340 I wanted you to
notice:

"Adrian Kalla is still producing his localized builds. Ratty suggests
that we should put out a notice on the default SM start page to tell
people where they can download the latest 2.4x release builds
(Mozilla-release is currently at Firefox 45 which corresponds to
SeaMonkey 2.42)."

So *not* a nightly but a release build.

Thanks for this, Thee Chicago Wolf, I'm not in any great rush to install
something new (Why did the Devs stick to six weekly releases?? Although
it seems they might be re-considering this!)

Just checked seamonkey IRC chn and none of the Ratty entities are online
ATM, but will keep checking so I can ask him directly.

Compose the email in HTML, and use Insert > Link. ❓❓❓

Yes, that would probably work, Walt, but as I want to Compose in PL
. !

Why, when your sister is probably accessing GMail in Chrome (you think).
Tell her to install Thunderbird. ;-)

Whilst my sister uses Google Chrome for her browsing, she uses Microsoft
Mail (or whatever it's called) for her e-mail processing. Apparently,
even including the link in a PT e-mail enclosed by < > did not work for
her! ;-(

I had considered composing limited e-mails in HTML because, for the last
five years or so, I've been sending a group of people e-mails each week
which included links to where we were meeting each Monday evening, but
tonight when I asked them if the links worked for them, they all replied
they were having no problems. Some on iPhones, some on Mac computers,
some on Windows, so who knows!! Maybe they just didn't want to admit
they couldn't manage it.

Shorten the link.

In plain-text urls are interpreted as url by SMI suspect that Chrome
let those links simply in pure text.

So the best way is to compose in HTM and go to the menu "Insert" - "Link"

Does SM break links??

2016-03-13 Thread Daniel
I'm trying to send my sister a google maps link from my SM to her Google
Chrome (I think), but when she received my e-mail, the link was broken,
spread across two lines, so she could Cut-n-Paste the two halves
together, if she wanted. But that was not what I wanted!!

I then sent her the same link but enclosed with-in < > and it still
didn't work and her response was "doesn't appear as a link .. just plain
text"

So does SM break long links?? And is there a workaround that would make
the link clickable??
