Yesterday, I downloaded the FREE version of Malwarebytes 3.7.1.2879 from
the Malwarebytes home Web page.  I then installed it.

To get the installer, I went to .  On the
left side of the Web page under Home (I had to set Images to "Load all
images"), I put my cursor over the Explore button without selecting it.
That gave me the options Free and Premium.  I selected the Free Download
button under Free.

Note:  The installer shows a very long version number.  It is actually
three version numbers separated with hyphens.  The first part is the
software version.  The second part is the components version.  The third
part is the update package version.  I do not understand the distinction
between these three.

Well, at least from what I gather when downloading the latest software 
even though I've been using this program forever, no matter if you 
choose the Home/Premium Trial or Premium Trial links, considering either 
or is your only option to download any version without having to make an 
upfront payment, both links will give you access to the identical 
program. Long story short, both the Free/Premium Trial or Premium Trial 
versions are identical and, like Cinderella at midnight (after 14 days), 
both will revert to malware scanning only after the trial expires, 
unless you choose to spend the bucks for keeping Premium features active.

on demand to including every other anti-virus thing in a suite.
Download and install the free version but don't check the box for
"start 14 day trial", or what ever it says... I forgot exactly.
Also, in Setup / Application, be sure to turn off EVERYTHING,
otherwise it will continually report back to their home planet.



I cannot find the "Free Version" on Google.
Whatever Google comes up with turns out to be the 14 Day trial thing !
That is why I am asking if that is gone ?

Even the Google links that are OLDER still come up with the 14 day thing.
If I am missing something, please tell me !

Filehippo says it's free. There's no guarantee, but in this case I think
it is free because I use one of the 3.6.1. versions on the right and
it's free.

As I recall when I installed my version they "turned everything on". The
solution: turn everything off, and you'll have the free installation.
After the trial period is over, you won't notice the difference because
you already will have done what they were about to do.

I just read a "Review" of MalWareBytes that explained the 14 Day Trial
Period.

After the 14 Days - it reverts to the "FREE" version.

I thought that it would seize up after 14 days like most Trial Software !

I downloaded the "Free" Version and am using it now.  Sorry for my
confusion !

You can also look at their price list 
(https://www.malwarebytes.com/pricing/) and it still shows the 'free' 
version.  And if you try downloading via both links, it downloads the 
same version, so it confirms it's just a ploy to get more paid 
subscribers.  Plus, as you can see, seeing for yourself the confusion, 
many people will end up paying the Premium to keep the software active. ;)

Previously, if I remember correctly, there were 2 versions: FREE and 
PREMIUM.

Now, however, it looks like they turned on the Premium with the FREE
version hoping to lure a few more fish to their bottom-line.
