Right clicking the link does not give the option for a new tab either.


Most probably you're encountering a fake link (something which looks 
like a link but it really isn't) which only purpose is to execute a 
script (which might open a link on its own), therefore no "Open Link in 
New Tab" option is available.  This is more a content authoring problem 
and not a SeaMonkey one.  IIRC there's an ongoing work to make it 
possible for such elements to execute in a new tab.


Or maybe a JavaScript link. :(

When you encounter something like that,
you can mark the last letter of the text just before the clickable
element
and make the end of the marked block
the first letter of the text just after the element.
Viewing the source code of the selection will show you
(as Stanimir indicated)
that what you have encountered is a script, not a hyperlink.
