Also, to rule out another possibility, please could you find the freenet user in user management, go to advanced, and tell us what the checkboxes say? (Particularly "User cannot change password" and "Password never expires", but there are a few others). You are absolutely sure you don't have Kaspersky installed? We've had severe problems with that... Find the directory Freenet is installed in. Probably C:\Program Files\Freenet. There should be a Browse Freenet icon both on the desktop and on the start menu under "The Free Network Project" or something similar. That should open a copy of firefox which is tweaked for Freenet. If you can't find either, try opening http://127.0.0.1:/ - if freenet is running this should open.
