ALBANY - Gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon will be in Ithaca on Sunday
— but her campaign didn't spell it right on an invitation to the event on
Friday.

"Cynthia is coming to Ithica!" the subject line of the email to supporters
reads.

"Will you sign up now to attend a candidate meet & greet in Ithica on
Sunday evening, and learn how you can be involved?" the invite continues.

"Ithica Round-Table with Cynthia Nixon," the email continues.

Ithaca Mayor Svante Myrick wasn't too offended by the mistake, saying, "We
all make typos."

But Myrick is supporting Gov. Andrew Cuomo for a third term, and he said
the typo may go to a larger concern he has about Nixon's candidacy.

Nixon, the *Sex and the City* star, is running in her first political
campaign and challenging Cuomo in a Democratic primary on Sept. 13.

"I think it exposes the two things that I most worry about with her
candidacy: their campaign’s lack of knowledge with issues outside of New
York City and their inexperience," Myrick said.

Nixon campaign spokesman Lauren Hitt said the email was sent in error and
poked fun at the mistake.

"Something like this obviously would have been caught through our normal
review process," she responded.

"The proper steps have been taken to ensure this doesn't happen again."

Then she emailed a photo of an aide writing "Ithaca" over and over again on
a whiteboard.

For the record, the event is in Ithaca: 7.30 pm Sunday at the Argos Inn.
It's a meet and greet with the candidate in one of the most liberal
bastions in New York as Nixon runs to Cuomo's left.

"We don’t have to settle for the way things are," the invite reads.

"New York deserves a governor that will stand with the people, not the
corporate donors and the super rich campaign contributors who line their
campaign accounts."

This isn't the first minor issue with Nixon and Ithaca.

Soon after launching her campaign, she was asked by the *New York Times *where
upstate begins: She responded Ithaca
,
which her campaign later said was a joke.

Nonetheless, it reignited the ongoing debate

about where upstate New York starts.

On Comedy Central's *The Daily Show*, Nixon said Thursday

that Cuomo has not been the progressive Democrat that he claims to be.

She said Cuomo, who is seeking a third term, hasn't addressed racial and
economic inequality in New York and hasn't been able to

[sustainable_tompkins-l] East Hill Food Scraps Drop Spot Adds Farmers Market Hours

2018-06-01 Thread Geoff Dunn

(Ithaca, NY) The Tompkins County Department of Recycling and Materials
Management is pleased to announce the East Hill Food Scraps Recycling Drop Spot
will be open during the weekly Ithaca Farmers Market at 380 Pine Tree Road.

The mobile drop spot trailer will be at the farmers market – in the lot next to
Rite Aid - every Wednesday from 4pm to 6pm, beginning June 6th. This is in
addition to the regular drop spot hours of 11:00am to 2:00pm on Saturdays.

Food scraps recycling provides residents with the opportunity to expand their
waste reduction options while reducing their trash disposal costs.

The material collected each week is taken to Cayuga Compost in Trumansburg,
where it’s processed into compost and marketed to homeowners, landscapers and
farmers as a soil amendment.

Tompkins County offers free kitchen caddies, transport containers and
compostable bin liners to encourage residents to participate. These “tool kits”
are available at the Recycling and Materials Management office and at all drop
spots during their hours of operation.

“We’re very excited to be partnering with the Ithaca Farmers Market and
offering a weekday alternative for our East Hill Drop Spot users,” said Seth
Dennis, a Waste Reduction and Recycling Specialist for the County. “The
Saturday drop spot there has grown to become one of our busiest locations,” he
added.

drop spots and their hours, visit
