Subject: [biofuels-biz] Re: Max capacity and consultant for biodiesel wanted
1-What is the maximum capacity of a transesterification(biodiesel)
reactor?
there is no max capacity per se for batch units, but the bigger they get,
the more complex they are as regards
any diesel powered vehicle.

Let me rephrase my question ... which vehicles don't need their fuel
lines or pump seals changing?
Does any one in the group know of, or have access to, a list or lists of
vehicles including cars, vans and lorries, which can run directly on
biodiesel? It would be really useful if we
to quote an excerpt from the national biodiesel's board ...
Compatibility of biodiesel with engine components. In general, biodiesel
will soften and degrade certain types of elastomers and natural rubber
compounds over time. Using high percent blends can impact fuel system
components
it's fairly easy to replace fuel lines with viton (or other flouroelastomer
synthetic hose). you can buy kits to upgrade your system with methanol
friendly components.

Hello JosĀ:
1_ There`s not maxximum cappacity of
transesterification but the most common reactors are
between 2000Lts ( 500 gal) to 1 Lts (2500 gal).
Whit single reactors bigger than 1 Lts (2500
gal)is more dificult get high efficience reaction; in
general for get more daily capacity
As a motor mechanic who is has experience in the actual mechanicals, please
consider dropping the 3rd one, the mechanicals are very weak, at least the
ones delivered to Australia are...

I would like to pose 2 questions to all biodiesel experts:
1-What is the maximum capacity of a transesterification(biodiesel) reactor?
In other words can I react vegetable(or cooking oils) in a 2,000 gals
reactor? What about 5,000 gallons?
Is there a maximum capacity? What about ratio of Height

At best the reaction conditions we are using convert only a fraction of
the
WVO to ester.
( Configure the ammount of methanol into the equation for the reaction and
you will see what I mean).
The reaction involves

Today I compared the viscosity of two samples of BD with three oils
that I have used as damping fluid in the forks of my race-bike. To
empty a 5ml pippet took:
BD1-8sec
BD2-9secs
2.5wt oil---17sec
5wt oil 34sec
Thanks
