x-charset ISO-8859-1Andreas et al,
Been a busy few days but wanted to throw out a thanks for the other
ideas from yours and the other offline responses. My batch is working
well and had a nice separation in the product - nice and clear.
I'm still hoping to do a test on the 75%, 91%, 100%
x-charset ISO-8859-1Should I be upset? I was about to fire off my first
bigger batch (16
litres) and when I mixed the lye ( 3 ml +3.5 = 6.5 grams per liter) and
poured in the 3200 ml (16litres x 200 ml per liter) of methanol (HEET
brand fuel additive) I noticed after a bit that when I shook
. Treat neither any differently from the other.

I've heard things from time to time about legal this and not legal

overwhelmed with my search results. Anybody have any hard data on: ( I

x-charset ISO-8859-1Hey folks,
Made a mini-batch the other night and am going to try mix up my fist 5
gallon batch later this week. I thought for kicks, and future process

it. I have a few questions after reading over the
x-charset ISO-8859-1A friend asked if I had ever heard of people using
biodiesel on boat
motors. Any reason you couldn't use it? I'd think it'd be a GREAT
idea as it's a tad less of a polluter than dino-diesel is in the lakes.
Anybody ever heard of a marina selling bio-diesel?

Ok... no place in town sells anything above 91% actually. Got any
online sources for the Reagent grade stuff? The folks at work were
wondering what I was doing calling up places trying to get good clean
high grade stuff ... further enforcing their belief that I'm up to no
good. :)

Sorry.. a bit of further clarification. :) I'm talking about Isopropyl
alcohol for the titration step here.
So far best I can find in a pharmacy is the 95% concentration. Can you even
get stuff (99-100%) higher than that? Does it make a difference? Can you use
the 75% concentrations at
I'm getting the basic setup together and thought I'd have some fun with
my 5 gallon bucket and fix a valve to the side on the bottom to pour out
the glycerol and then the biodiesel. I tried it with some water and
noticed that there is a THIN gap from the bottom of the outlet valve to

Had heard that HEET was pretty much Methanol. Bottle notes it
contains methyl alcohol but I'm only worried that there is other crap
in there as well. I have it from a pretty good source though that it's
fine, esp for a quick 5 gallon test batch. Any thoughts or knowledge on
HEET out there?
Good point. Remember as well that most electric power needs falls in
two spikes, AM and PM rush. If you can run a generator for a few hours
in the AM and PM then that's really all you'd need to decrease
consumption during spike times, let alone run your farms on it. I know

I don't have a diesel car (am thinking about it ) but do have an oil
furnace. By coincidence the furnace cleaner guy is here today and I
asked him if you can use biodiesel in place of home heating oil, which
he said WAS diesel. I thought it was a different fuel
