x-charset ISO-8859-1Andreas et al, Been a busy few days but wanted to throw out a thanks for the other ideas from yours and the other offline responses. My batch is working well and had a nice separation in the product - nice and clear. I'm still hoping to do a test on the 75%, 91%, 100%

[biofuel] lye not dissolving?

2004-02-05 Thread Paul B.Schmidt
x-charset ISO-8859-1Should I be upset? I was about to fire off my first bigger batch (16 litres) and when I mixed the lye ( 3 ml +3.5 = 6.5 grams per liter) and poured in the 3200 ml (16litres x 200 ml per liter) of methanol (HEET brand fuel additive) I noticed after a bit that when I shook

x-charset ISO-8859-1Just wondering what other people are using to mix up the lye and methanol with. Seems that I read alot about putting it in a sealed container to avoid fumes... but then how do you mix it up? Just shake it around or do you need to have some sort of sealed mixed in the

[biofuel] Plastic #4...?

2004-01-29 Thread Paul B.Schmidt
x-charset ISO-8859-1I'm looking for a flat out list of which types of plastic -#1,2,3,4,... are good to use and which one's aren't. I have a #4 trash can I'm thinking of using for a washing tub, but will it rot out? Tried to search through JTF... but didn't find it or missed it. Anybody?

x-charset ISO-8859-1That was me. I BLEW it last Thursday when I (nor my chemist partner!!) didn't notice the scale was set on ounces instead of grams. Made some spiffy soap allrighty though. Am going to run the titration test again either Thursday or Friday on 70%, 91%, and 100% stuff on

x-charset ISO-8859-1Hey folks, Made a mini-batch the other night and am going to try mix up my fist 5 gallon batch later this week. I thought for kicks, and future process practice I'd even try to wash it and get some top grade stuff out of it. I have a few questions after reading over the

[biofuel] Bio on boats

2004-01-27 Thread Paul B.Schmidt
x-charset ISO-8859-1A friend asked if I had ever heard of people using biodiesel on boat motors. Any reason you couldn't use it? I'd think it'd be a GREAT idea as it's a tad less of a polluter than dino-diesel is in the lakes. Anybody ever heard of a marina selling bio-diesel? -Paul

Good point. Remember as well that most electric power needs falls in two spikes, AM and PM rush. If you can run a generator for a few hours in the AM and PM then that's really all you'd need to decrease consumption during spike times, let alone run your farms on it. I know little of the
