Hello all,
I just received a copy of a
memorandum sent by the NYS Assoc of Service Stations and Repair Shops dated
5/11/06.
" Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno
and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver toady announced that legislature has
reached agreement on a plan .......".
The main points of the plan are:
1. Cap the state sales tax on gasoline
at 8 cents/gal
(Freezing the tax at
the $2/gal rate).
A fine of up to
$5000/incident/day for stations that did not pass along the savings to
consumers.
The 8 cent cap would be
reduced should the price of gas drop below $2/gal (Ha!)
2. Provide a tax credit for the purchase of
home heating oil that contains biodiesel fuel. The credit would be equal to the
percentage of biodiesel contained in the fuel, i.e. a 10 cents per gallon credit
for heating fuel containing 10% biodiesel.
3. Require that the State Thruway Authority
and NYSERDA develop a plan to make alternate fuels such as ethanol, available at
Thruway service areas.
"Both houses are to vote on
the bill by next week."
This is interesting, but
as of now, I don't think there is a sufficient supply of either BD or ethanol in
the northeastern US.
I've been looking at flex
fuel cars, but aside from SUV's, Lincoln Town cars and pick-up trucks, the
picking is slim.
