Friends, On June 25, I and my grandson will drive a 2003 VW Beetle TDI from Salt Lake City, Utah, to Anchorage Alaska: distance 3,100 miles. Expected fuel use will be 50 gallons of biodiesel (B20). Mileage will be a little better than 60 miles per gallon, or 120 passenger miles per gallon. (Trip speed will be 65 mph. Measures are included to reduce rolling resistance and aerodynamic drag.)
For me, this will be a baseline test for continuing research on diesel engine emission control. (This test will not include any controls, but emissions will be typical for the new, cleaner TDI engine.) You are invited to share in this adventure with us. How can we use the occasion to promote energy conservation and renewables /environmental progress? Ernie Rogers Pleasant Grove, Utah ------------------------ Yahoo!
