All, i just had an interesting conversation with someone who will remain unnamed. He is trying to get involved in alternative energy, and expressed his concern for the future of Bio-diesel. According to the people in his circle, Minnesota's mandatory requirement for 2% Biodiesel blended into Fossil Fuel, may be very bad for the future of Biodiesel. According to him,"all the manufacturers are producing very poor quality 'junk fuel'" because with the extreme (98%) dilution rate, the quality doesn't matter. I tried to get the names of the manufacturers he was talking about, but he clammed up, citing 'common knowledge' and 'everyone knows'. The gist of the conversation was that homebrewers can't compete with the Big guys's economy of scale, particularly if the Big guys produce 'junk fuel'. He did give another clue, when he said that the 'junk fuel' is being produced 'mostly' from Yellow Grease and Tallow from rendering plants/slaughter houses.
My intent is not to perpetuate a rumor! It is a request for some assistance in identifying the culprits, if any. This may be similar to Keith's quest for any evidence of bad homebrewed fuel ruining engines, ie 'Urban Legends'. Can anyone verify that someone is making junk fuel from Yellow Grease and Tallow, and marketing it for use in a 2% blend in Minnesota? I'd like this to be proved or disproved before it spreads further, and becomes 'common knowledge'.
