Subject: [biofuel] Need feedback on SVO Diesel testing at local Tech
School.

As the SVO/WVO joint venture with my local technical school has
progressed we have determined that it would best serve us to
initially use a diesel genset to simulate automotive use of SVO/WVO
over a period of 5 years/75,000 miles. By utilizing computer
controls/programs to simulate the loads and RPM of an automobile we
hope to generate more useful data than that of simply running a
genset wide open on SVO/WVO as many previous researchers have done.
We have determined that if possible we would like to use an engine
that is as similar as possible to existing automotive engines rather
than those deigned specifically for generator use. If possible we
would prefer to use one that is available in both DI and IDI
configurations as the second part of our project calls for testing
modifications to the fuel system that I believe will counteract the
combustion cylinder deposits and crankcase oil dilution that has been
reported by other researchers.

I can take no credit for the origination of these ideas/concepts...I
only hope to generate useful data on them.

I understand that VW may have a DI industrial engine that shares a
block with a previous IDI design of theirs. It would seem that this
would be the "perfect" subject engine for our tests. But maybe not.

Does anyone have any thoughts on our logic regarding the tests or
this engine.

Does anyone have any information on this engine pro or con...or if it
even exists.

How about where I might obtain a few of them.

I don't know if it would be more useful to obtain new engines or used
engines and have them overhauled and benchmarked.

Any thoughts on that???

Thanks in advance for any input.
Dana
