October 10 (SeeNews) - Crimson Renewable Energy LP last week held a
ceremony to mark an expansion of its biodiesel plant in Kern County,
California that triples the facility's production level to 24 million
gallons (90.85 million litres) a year.
The plant is currently ramping up to its new capacity, the company said
in a press release. The "ultra-low carbon" biodiesel fuel produced at
the facility is made entirely from used cooking oils and other inedible
raw materials.
The expansion, worth multi million dollars, was supported by a matching
grant from the California Energy Commission’s Alternative Renewable Fuel
and Vehicle Technology Program. The upgrades involved expansion of steam
and other existing systems, as well as the installation of new
second-generation systems, which will allow the plant to reduce its
energy and water consumption by 10% to 15%.
