I agree that english should be the prefered list language. On the
other hand, Fredi is in line with the current SWINOG charter:

The working languages are any official Swiss language plus English.

Perhaps we should update the charter?

We already defined the meeting language to be english, we could do aswell
for the mailing list...

Usualy such things are voted by rising your hand at a swinog meeting (pretty
like LandesGemeinde (same word in french ;p))... and as I have some other
things to get voted at the next meeting, I ll add this to the list

Don't think this is what's required here. Please stay with the basics.

Agreed?

Sorry Kurt, SwiNOG exists since almost 3 years now, and there are rules that
have been set since the begining. One of the rule is that any modification
of the SwiNOG charter, rules, organisation are voted by raising you hand
at SwiNOG meetings.

Also, since SwiNOG-3, there are three persons forming a Core team
responsible of the global organisation of SwiNOG. Those person are Michel
Renfer, Fabien Berger and myself. Those persons have given much of their
free time and even money. So please respect those rules and those persons
that's all I have to say.

P,

Highly appreciating what you are doing with SwiNOG and therefore the
community, please don't take me wrong, guess all here _are_ respecting
those rules and those persons. Just trying to avoid the unnecessary,
nothing else. Other problems are waiting to become solutions...

Sure, if you would like to change something in the swinog rules, feel free
to make a proposal and we will vote it at the next meeting.

Hi

I think we can stop the discussion about the language.
What Roger found in the SWINOG charter makes everything clear:

The working languages are any official Swiss language p l u s English.

I understand this in the only way, that i can write in any swiss language plus the english translation!

Have a nice weekend

It seems that even the old SWINOG members are no longer respecting old
Internet traditions :-)

We reject kings, presidents and voting.
We believe in rough consensus and running code.
   (Dave Clark)

Well, seriously, if I remember well, Phil Bridge wanted to have all five
languages as official working languages in order to make sure that even
people with difficulties in Englich can contribute to SWINOG. The language
should never prevent someone from contributing.

So in my opinion, whenever possible, English should be used. But if some-
one really has a problem with it, he should be allowed to express himself
in his own language. This will not happen often, and there are enough
people around to contribute.

Of course this was not the case for Fredi Ammann. He should just learn
to handle his M$ MUA...

Cheers,

Roger
