Re: [sword-devel] Module upload: UrduGeoDeva

2017-05-19 Thread Peter Von Kaehne
This replaces last week's publication of a slightly differently named module. I
will remove the other one in the next few hours. The background is that I was
unaware that we had already a publication out.

Re: [sword-devel] Module upload: UrduGeo

2017-05-19 Thread David Haslam
Looking at the text of the *UrduGeo* module, which uses the *Arabic* writing
system, I was surprised to discover that there are four *Devanagari*
characters in the module.

U+0924 त 1 DEVANAGARI LETTER TA
U+092C ब 1 DEVANAGARI LETTER BA
U+0932 ल 1 DEVANAGARI LETTER LA
U+0942 ू 1 DEVANAGARI VOWEL SIGN UU

The word *तूबल* appears in the text of this verse!

This might indicate that the translation is edited in Devanagari, and that
the Arabic script edition is made by means of a conversion process.

i.e. At this sole location, the process stumbles maybe due to an exception
for the conversion algorithm.

If you are in contact with the publisher of the source text, this is
something that perhaps ought to be reported to them.

btw. The handling of the 74 verse ranges has not been adequately
implemented.

Where verse ranges exist, it was done by a hyphen and digits in the verse
text rather in proper OSIS XML.

There is room for improvement here.

Best regards,

David

Re: [sword-devel] Module upload: UrdGVDevanagari

2017-05-19 Thread David Haslam
Both the recently updated *Urdu Geo Version* modules have /identical/
Descriptions!

*Urdu Geo Version (UGV)*

This has the unfortunate consequence that *JSword* based front-end
applications will view them as the same module, even though the module names
are different.

This longstanding problem is described somewhere in the developers' wiki.
Module team ought be be aware of it.

Please change the Devanagari edition description to become:

*Urdu Geo Version (UGV) Devanagari*

IMHO, the module name is too verbose, and not sufficiently similar to the
other module for users to see at a glance that it's the same translation as
*UrduGeo* published with a different writing system.

I would have preferred that it be simplified to *UrduGeoD*.

Please consider renaming the module when the Description field is updated.

Best regards,

David
