More info later on a number of issues, but since this has been raised, I

The ability to use internal hyperlinks would enable indexes, tables of 
contents, Scripture indexes, etc., in addition to allowing readers to 
refer to other sections. Bible passage references seem to work well for 
most front-ends.


I fully understand if the functionality (described in the OSIS doc) is 
just not there yet. But some info would be helpful.


The only doc seems to be regarding General Books, linking to headed 
sections, but I cannot seem to make even that work.

[sword-devel] More French questions

Greetings,


I know this is an ongoing discussion, but I am trying to get some work done :^)


I am working on several commentaries in French for use specifically with AndBible. So far they seem to be working 
more or less.


I am trying to figure out the correct way to set up French versification. Supposedly Jsword supports the French 
versifications, but I can't find any documentation on what they are. Do I need to pull the SVN and decipher the source 
code?


I have several commentaries based on the Louis Segond (LSG) versification.
1) do I need to put something in the OSIS tagging to indicate this?


2) what -v11n flag should I use for osis2mod.exe? Will that even work, considering the 1.7 version doesn't support 
French versifications?


3) what Versification= should I put in mods.d/module.conf?


I have one commentary that is based on the Colombe Bible, aka Segond Revisée (SER). It has a lot of differences from 
KJV, LSG, DarbyFR, or Calvin. When I try to compile it with osis2mod, the linking hangs in the book of Joel, and I don't 
know if it is a problem with my annotateRef tagging or a problem with osis2mod not knowing what to do with the 
versification.


Seriously, I would be happy to help with French, but so far I can't even get my own stuff to work. I need help getting up 
to speed.

.po files are text files in the end, so if you have some $EDITOR 
you like, if it has at least some extensibility it has probably 
support for ediitng po file. Emacs has 
https://www.emacswiki.org/emacs/Gettext two modes, the latter 
has some nice functions to support jumping around the file and 
simplifies copying texts between different nodes. vim has 
https://github.com/vim-scripts/po.vim--Jelenak, which has nide 
key shortcuts as well. I am certain that SubEdit, VSCode, and 
Atom will have some support for po files as well.

What I wanted to say that poedit.net is not that super deal as 
it tries to look like. Of course, if anybody likes it, go for

The \addpn was pre-nested tags... it provided both dotted underline and
italicized text (or in CJK the appropriate alternate font) to indicate a
proper name that is not in the original text. nested tags make this
redundundant.

I would suggest the underline as the proper way to mark the names. It has
precedent in English for use as titles and proper names when italics are
unavailable or already used to indicate something else. Most rendering
systems have the ability to manage underlines independently of color and
font. This will make developers lives much easier, and provide more
intuitive reading.

Bold, on the other hand has to be managed on many systems as a separate
font. This turns into complex management of information when bold / italics
/ (sm)allcaps etc. are required.

is such that SWORD and JSword developers have something to test should they 
like the idea.

I'd like to see front-ends such as Xiphos and PocketSword include a UI options 
to toggle how such names are displayed.

The simplest way for other than Far East Asian scripts (such as Chinese, 
Korean, Japanese) would be to show marked names in bold when the option is 
selected.
For all fonts that include a bold typeface, this would be ideal in the sense

Christ in red.

USFM 3.0 now supports \png_...\png* as well as \pn_...\pn*

I also forgot to mention that there seems to be also a Linux edition of Poedit 
that should be included in the major distributions.

Since I started the thread, I've bought the Pro version.

localizations.

Languages (Chinese), proper names are typographically marked (dotted
underlines most frequently) to aid the reader recognizing those glyphs.

That's the original use, and the intent of it's presence in OSIS. There
might be others. The point is, it was originally intended as a visible
marker, not metadata.

This may be useful for anyone wishing to create or edit the PO files used in 
some front-ends for UI localization.

If anyone already uses Poedit, please share your experiences and observations. 
I've not yet had a go.

There's always a need for front-end apps to be made more accessible to 
non-English readers.

To my mind, the simpler the better. I would not actually use the OSIS 
markup for name. There is a potential compatibility problem with 
different software. I think it would be best if one were to simply 
right-click on a word, and the user would see what, if any, resources 
were available for it. Such would be a more generalized solution.

What functionality would be a reasonable expectation associated with a marked 
up name? Potentially different presentation style, a dictionary link maybe?
