[sympy] Introducing myself

2021-04-02 Thread Román Rodríguez
Hello, everybody, my name is Román and I'm a developer who's new to SymPy
and Symbolic Mathematics. I got to know about SymPy thanks to GSoC and I'm
hoping to apply here with this organization. I'm currently a venezuelan
software engineering student in my 6th semester and know how to program in
Python, my favorite programming language, which I've been using since the
last year. I also work pretty well with other languages such as C,
Javascript and Java. As for my maths skills, I have a solid base of
knowledge since I'm an engineering student, which means that I already know
Calculus and Discrete Maths. Also, I have always been a math lover since I
was really young, so I'm definitely willing to learn more and more. I've
seen this project and I think that it fits me perfectly, even though I
haven't worked with CAS before, but of course, I have just started the
basic tutorials of SymPy and I'm loving it.

I would like to know if there might be a chance for me, or if it's too late
for GSoC, since I recently discovered about it.

I'm also new to Open Source, but sure I have used Git before for my own
projects. I don't know if that might hold me back (beign new), so I would
like to know your opinion.

Finally, I'd like to mention that I'm not a native English speaker, so I
apologize if I made any mistakes. My mothertongue is Spanish, if you're
wondering.

Thanks in advance!
Román Rodríguez.

2020-02-02 Thread Jonty K.
*Hello*, *my name is Jaswinder Kantiwa*l and I am a student of B.Tech in
Computer Engineering, currently in 3rd year. My languages of interest are
Python and Java. I love python and solving problems using it. Infact Python
was the first language I started learning about 3 years ago, and it opened
my eyes to the beautiful world of programming.

As soon as I heard about *sympy*, I was amazed by it and its capabilities.
It is the one of a kind project whose function can be reaped by people from
broad areas of disciplines. I too have started contributing to this great
project and will continue to do so.

Hereby, I just want to greet everyone here and just give a little
introduction to me and *my interests in this project*.

At last,
*Thank you reader* for reading this :)

[sympy] [Sympy] Introducing myself and idea for a project regarding series

2018-11-17 Thread shrivastavaavi123
Hello everyone,

I, Avi Shrivastava, am a second year undergraduate at Bits Pilani K. K.
Birla Goa Campus, India, in the field of mechanical engineering.

I came to know about GSoC and got interested in Sympy as an organisation
around July 2018 and have been contributing since then. I am hugely
impressed by the entire Sympy community and will be glad to become a part
of it someday. I've been studying applied mathematics, abstract algebra,
geometry, to name a few branches, in mathematics, copiously for the past
couple of months (last two semesters) and working on previous issues in
Sympy in the related fields (on the topics of Integrals, Geometry, Number
theory to name a few)

In mathematics, I am excessively intrigued by Calculus (specifically
Integration in it) and Series Expansions. Hopefully I'll find more topics
as intriguing as them as time goes by.
Also, I am fascinated by physics and its applications in the real world.
Knowing that Sympy has an active community who works for its application
(classical mechanics - equations of motion generation, for one) makes me
glad.

I'll be delighted to work in areas involving Series Expansions, Integration
- Implementation of Risch's algorithm, and Classical mechanics - equations
of motion generation. Of-course my interest is not limited to these fields
but since I do have a bit of experience in them, it might give me an edge
in them over others.

Also, as I was going through the code-base, I couldn't find an appreciable
implementation of a series expansion algorithm or function, even using
fourier expansion. Please let me know if there exists any. If there isn't,
I'll be happy to work in this area.

If anyone has any other suggestions regarding/in my previously mentioned
interests/adding to them or have an application in mind, I'll be delighted
to hear from you.
Thanks.

Avi Shrivastava

2018-02-20 Thread Anshil Gandhi
Hi everyone,

My name is Anshil Gandhi and I am a first year student at the University of
Alberta, enrolled in B. Sc. Honours in Computing Science. I am fairly
experienced with programming and algorithm design. I began writing programs
when I was in grade 3 in a language called BASIC. I have created several
GUI applications through Microsoft Visual Basic including text editing
softwares and desktop widgets. Gradually, I developed a passion for
designing algorithms, particularly algorithms involved in puzzles and
games. Besides programming and algorithm design, I have also been involved
in competitive chess. Mathematics is certainly the subject I am most
interested in. I have participated in several math contests over the course
of my career as a student. Currently, I am enrolled in Honours Linear
Algebra 2 and Honours Calculus 2 (Integral Calculus and Series) for the
purpose of studying proofs written for many identities and theorems we use
today. I also frequently participate in programming and problem solving
contests. C++ and Python 3 are the programming languages I am most
comfortable with as I use them in most of my projects today.

After going through a list of various project ideas, the topic I am most
interested in is improving the methods used to compute or expand series. In
particular, I would like to improve algorithms for computing power series.
I have recently been going over the Sympy tutorials to ensure my
proficiency with the library.

Please do contact me if you are seeking a candidate to mentor in a related

[sympy] Introducing Myself

2018-02-12 Thread KAUSHAL KISHORE
Hi Everyone ,

I am Kaushal Kishore , second year undergraduate at the department of
Computer Science & Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Palakkad.

Listed below are some of my programming skills:
1.) C/C++ : highly skilled
2.) Python : well versed
3.) Git/Github : skilled
4.) Java : a rookie
5.) Verilog : skilled
6.) Assembly Language : a beginner (currently enrolled in the course)
7.) PHP / SQL : familiar (did a small-project)

Listed below are some of my technical skills:
1.) Good familiarity with Numpy, Scipy , OpenCV , Tensorflow, and other
common scientific libraries
2.) FPGA
3.) Computer Vision and Machine Learning : (did many course on coursera and
Udacity)
4.) Software Development

I have a good mathematical background which includes the following topics:

1.) Calculus : highly skilled
2.) Linear Algebra : highly skilled
3.) Discrete Mathematics : skilled
4.) Data Structures & Algorithms : (currently enrolled in the course)
5.) Graph Theory : skilled
6.) Probability & Statistics : (currently enrolled in the course)
7.) Differential Equations : familiar
8.) Set Theory : familiar
9.) Numerical Analysis : a beginner

Along with the following above mathematical backgrounds. My other areas of
interest lies in the classical and Quantum Mechanics. Below are some of the
non-departmental courses which I have completed.
1.) Classical Mechanics : skilled
2.) Quantum Mechanics : (did a introductory course)
3.) Introductory Thermodynamics
3.) Digital Systems : (did a course in previous semester)

Though I haven't used SymPy before, but have a little understanding of the
library. I haven't contributed to open source yet but fixed some of the
codes while trying to build some software from its source. As I already
stated I am skilled in git and github and use it on daily basis to keep
track my course codes.

I went through some your project Ideas, there was a section of high
priorities involving the SymEngine expression solver. I would like to
contribute in that particular section if selected. Even though the
expression solver section was quite obvious but I think a little bit more
information would be needed.

I'm looking forward to contribute to SymPy.

2017-12-21 Thread Tanay Agrawal
Thanks for guiding me, Jason.

I am a third year undergrad (Electronics + Msc. Mathematics) at BITS
Pilani, India. I have 2 years of experience in Python having used it for
competitive cooding and few small machine learning projects. Having almost
completed my Msc. maths course, I am conversant with almost all
mathematical concepts used till date in sympy(as mentioned in the
documentation). I haven't used sympy previously but have a rough idea of
its working and architecture after going through the documentation(not
completely). I hope to start contributing in about a week after I return
from vacation.

Hello,

I'm interested in contributing to this open-source project. To start with,
I've cloned your git repository. I'm also reading through the Wiki.
I would like to contribute to your Physics module.

About myself:
I am a sophomore student at Birla Institute of Technology and Science,
Pilani, INDIA.
I study Physics and Computer Science as my Major subjects. [My course:
M.Sc(Physics) + B.E (Computer Science)].
I have decent experience as a developer. I have successfully completed
GSoC'13(Apache
 OpenOffice).

I'm currently doing my undergrad level physics courses. I was basically
looking for something that is a convergence of both Physics and Computer
Science as I'm very passionate about them.

I hope to have a good time contributing to this project.
