Seems to me to hold a track meet in the Astrodome (as is being proposed for
the 2012 Olympic Games) would cause a lot of complications as to whether a
record, or any time for that matter, is recognized as an indoor record/time

Jason Long ran for JMU and I believe graduated in 2001. I know he ran 1:47
high in the prelims of IC4As in the 800 last year, but I don't know what his

behind USATFs decision making process. Why aren't the standards for the
marathon the same for track? Top 3 go... assuming they have the A standard.
If they do not, then the next highest finished with the standard
is 15.

that these performances are not likely being done by athletes as young as

Well, My friend ran the Phili Marathon this weekend. He did that pretty
radical taper I mentioned to all of you... and I think it worked for him.
He finished in 2:36:41 for 15th place. Not bad for this 23 year old's (as
of Sep) debut 'thon off 80 mile weeks. After going out in 1:14 he died
ok... i'm having a discussion with a friend about a good taper for a
marathon. he thinks that for someone running 80 miles a week going into 3
weeks of the marathon, they should run 65-70, 45, 30. I say that is too
little. I gave him examples of Bob Hodge before his 2:12:30 at Boston and
