 To The List,

Yes, there is a Find command in JAWS, and it is the same key combination that
is used for both Window-eyes and NVDA. it is Control plus Insert plus F. The
key combination Control plus F is the Find command that is relevant to the
Windows operating system. Please take note.

WG: Is there a Find feature in JAWS?

Hi Steve and list,

You are absolutely correct. In Word there is the Word FIND feature with
Control f. I never did test in Word if Insert Control f was working as I
learnt this feature in Adobe Reader only although there in it under Edit a
FIND feature with Control f but it doesn't work in my program. However,
Control f and F3 to repeat work perfectly in Internet Explorer. That is the
situation on my machine.

Best regards,

Thanks for the clarification. This is, unfortunately, not a simple subject.
I did not know that CONTROL-F brings up the JAWS dialog in Internet
Explorer. INSERT-CONTROL-F seems to also bring it up for me. Internet
Explorer also has a find command that is initiated by CONTROL-F, but the
JAWS Find overlays it. That is good since the JAWS Find in this case will
search the entire virtual buffer which is probably what one wants.

However, in Word, I find that CONTROL-F brings up the Word search dialog,
but that is probably the best one to use in word. INSERT-CONTROL-F still
brings up the JAWS Find command for me. There are some differences between
the two dialogs so it is good to know which is being used.

I don't mean to seem to be splitting hairs, it is worth knowing which
command is being used. In addition, I want to know if I am wrong.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

Isn't the JAWS "Find" command JAWSKEY plus CTRL plus F? Control-F is often
the key to bring up a find dialog in specific software, but this is
different.

If one goes to the JAWS screen with JAWSKEY plus j, then to the Utilities
Menu, there is a "Search for Command" utility that can be very useful. I
have found this utility to be frustrating sometimes, though, because the
terminology is different in JAWS than in Window-Eyes, so one has to
experiment sometimes.

Re: Adding New Account to Thunderbird

2017-09-02 Thread Tom Kingston via Talk

Glad to help.
Enjoy,
Tom

Thank you, Tom. This is more useful than the way I was doing it. Also
tapping the control key silences most of the other stuff before pressing
read to end. You just saved me several seconds of unnecessary chatter.

An easier way to do this would be to go into Verbosity, Browse mode,

It is not exactly a fix, but you can press the left arrow just after

Speaking of Thunderbird, I am using it with W E 9.5.4. Has anyone

using Thunderbird. However, in order to be completely fair, the same
thing occurred when I used Windows live mail. It also occurred
regardless of whether I used JFW or Window-eyes. Conversely, it
doesn't happen when I use Becky for email. I guess I am a bit
frustrated with email programs because each seems to have its own
issues. For example, with Becky I haven't figured out a way to sort
messages from several lists into folders. Also, I find no means of
changing the order of columns with Becky. That's the conclusion of
today's rant. Remember, it is worth exactly what you paid for it.

RE: Is there a Find feature in JAWS?

2017-09-02 Thread Steve Jacobson via Talk
Isn't the JAWS "Find" command JAWSKEY plus CTRL plus F? Control-F is often
the key to bring up a find dialog in specific software, but this is
different.

If one goes to the JAWS screen with JAWSKEY plus j, then to the Utilities
Menu, there is a "Search for Command" utility that can be very useful. I
have found this utility to be frustrating sometimes, though, because the
terminology is different in JAWS than in Window-Eyes, so one has to
experiment sometimes.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

Subject: Learnig JAWS and NVDA

In learning JAWS as a WE user, my biggest problem is learning the JAWS menus
and settings. I find it hard to find what I need. Some are not as
descriptive as I would like. I do like the Microsoft mobile voice Mark, I
find it responsive and easy to listen to.
I find that NVDA and JAWS have some similarities. I find that NVDA does some
things better than JAWS.

I do want to get a working knowledge of both screen readers just in case WE
stops working in future releases of Windows. But right now still like WE
best.
